Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain number of individuals prefer to live at their birth place for a longer period of time. This essay will describe few reasons and provide positives and negatives for this development.

The first reason for this is familiarity. In simple words they have enough knowledge of the surrounding areas. Moreover, they also know many people over there which provide them a friendly environment to live and work over there.

There are some advantages for this situation. Firstly, people who want to start business at the same place where they born give them an opportunity to expand business very easily and early. To simplify, since they live near close to born place a huge number of people know them very well and this help them to grow business easily. Secondly, it provides a mental wellbeing as birthplace provides them a mental assurance of their family origin. For instance, my grandfather still prefer to live at our county side home as they want to spend their life at their native place.

On the other side, it may reduce the personal growth of a people. In other words, by living at the birthplace might provides a less opportunity if it is located at rural area. To illustrate, many individuals who still prefer to live at rural place because of the friendly environment are not able to grow financially.

In conclusion, familiarity and friendly environment are the main two reasons for this choice. Although a growing business easily and mental well being are the merits, however, limited personal growth is the demerit point for this situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all parts of the prompt: familiarity and social connections are given as reasons, while business opportunities and emotional security are presented as advantages, and limited growth as a disadvantage. These points are relevant, and the example of your grandfather gives one idea a personal illustration. However, some ideas are more fully addressed than others. The reasons are brief, and the business advantage is repeated in similar terms rather than explained with a distinct example. The disadvantage is also general: explain more specifically how limited local employment or education can restrict someone’s prospects. A clearer distinction between the reasons people stay and the benefits of staying would make the response more complete and developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement, moving from reasons to advantages, then a disadvantage and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this structure, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “On the other side” make the main stages visible. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some effective progression. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and links between ideas are not always smooth. For example, “There are some advantages for this situation” begins a new section without clearly connecting it to the reasons above, while “Although …, however” uses two contrast markers together. The conclusion also repeats the main points rather than drawing them together. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its explanation more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “familiarity,” “friendly environment,” “mental wellbeing,” and “personal growth.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “family origin” and “native place.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “birth place” is better expressed as “birthplace” or “place of birth,” and “county side home” appears to mean “countryside home.” Phrases such as “a demerit point” and “a mental assurance” also sound unnatural in this context. Some repetition of “easily” and “place” reduces flexibility. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural word partnerships and choose precise terms rather than translating expressions directly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “since” and a contrast structure beginning “Although.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “people who want to start business … give them an opportunity” has a subject–verb and sentence-structure problem; “this help them” should agree with the singular subject, and “might provides” should be “might provide.” Articles and number are also inconsistent in phrases such as “a people” and “at the birthplace.” The final sentence’s “Although …, however” construction is not grammatically well formed. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause structure, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
