Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many individuals have preferred to stay near their birthplace, which has attracted considerable attention. This situation raises important questions regarding what the motive is behind this and the pros and cons. This essay will address these issues in turn.

One of the main reasons why citizens do not leave their hometown is family. This is largely because everyone loves their family and doesn't want to separate from them. For example, if people live together, they can spend quality time with each other and prevent conflict situations.

Moreover, another contributing factor is the environment and social circle. According to research, 75 percent of people give priority to their birthplace because they spent their entire childhood there, further reinforcing this situation.

From my perspective, there are numerous benefits to living in one's hometown. One effective approach would be for people to produce their own vegetables on farms. For instance, not only can they eat fresh vegetables without pesticides, but it also helps them earn money. Furthermore, individuals don't need to pay rent for a home because they own. However, the following are some difficulties they have faced. Such as education and supermarkets, hospitals. Not all cities have good educational facilities and various courses. Therefore, some students lack opportunities for their future. Similarly, because large malls are not available everywhere, people need to go to another city for shopping and for medical emergencies as well, which could play a crucial role in addressing the problems more effectively.

In conclusion, bonding with families and natural surroundings is a major reason. At the same time, owning a business, education, and emergency services would be the most practical way forward.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: family ties and familiarity are offered as reasons, and you identify benefits and drawbacks of staying near one’s birthplace. The family explanation is relevant, and the points about education, shopping and medical access give the disadvantages some substance. However, the advantages are less clearly connected to the task: growing vegetables and avoiding rent are presented without explaining how these benefits apply specifically to people who remain near where they were born. The conclusion also introduces “owning a business” and emergency services as practical solutions rather than clearly summarising the advantages and disadvantages. Develop each main idea with a direct explanation or example, and make the relationship between birthplace and each point explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate discussion of reasons and effects, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the essay. However, progression is sometimes weakened by abrupt or unclear connections. The shift from reasons to advantages is not clearly signposted, and “However, the following are some difficulties they have faced. Such as education and supermarkets, hospitals” breaks the flow and leaves the list grammatically detached. The final sentence of that paragraph also combines shopping, medical emergencies and solutions in a confusing way. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s purpose and connect examples directly to the point they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “birthplace,” “contributing factor,” “social circle,” “educational facilities,” and “medical emergencies.” These choices allow you to discuss family, community and access to services, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some imprecise or unnatural combinations, such as “prevent conflict situations,” “produce their own vegetables on farms,” and “the most practical way forward” when referring to a list of reasons and services. “This situation” is repeated, and “environment” is vague in the context of familiarity with a hometown. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid broad phrases when a specific term, such as local surroundings or community ties, would express the idea more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if people live together…”) and a “not only…but also” construction. Most sentences communicate their main meaning, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. In “they own,” the verb needs an object or a possessive construction, such as “they own their homes.” The fragment “Such as education and supermarkets, hospitals” should be joined to the preceding sentence, for example, “These include limited access to education, supermarkets and hospitals.” In “not only can they eat…, but it also helps them,” the two sides of the construction do not match clearly. Check sentence boundaries and ensure paired structures have parallel subjects and forms.
