Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is irrefutable that human is a social animal who needs family to live with. There are few people who spend their lives near to the place where they were born. I would describe its causes and merits and demerits in the forthcoming paragraphs with examples.

To start with the reasons behind the close residing to birth place is the first and extended family. People like to live in the same or nearby city because of their upbringing was at same place. There friends are in the same city along with education and work. Consequently the same city becomes the comfortable place to live for a person and he does not think to move to other place. For example, in india most of the people are living in the same city where they were born like my parents.

Moreover, it has plenty of advantages that one can have in his life. First of all, a person knows the place better because his childhood is spent in the same area. One can spend more time with his family and support each other in difficult times. A person becomes more attached to the place and think about the betterment of the society and surrounding.

On the other hand, people can stuck in the same place for lifelong becuase they do not step out from their comfort zone. There are tons of growth and career opportunities in this world nowadays which is missed by the people who are still living in the same town.

In conclusion, there are many reasons for people to live at their birthplace which has a lot of benefits as well but there is cost of this as well that folks are paying by not getting much opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: you identify family, friends, education and work as reasons for staying, then discuss familiarity, family support and missed career opportunities. The example about your parents gives the response a personal connection. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: for instance, the link between upbringing and remaining in the same city could be clarified, and the disadvantage of missing opportunities would be stronger with a specific example. The advantages are more fully developed than the disadvantages, which receive only a brief explanation. To strengthen the response, explain how these factors influence people’s choices and support each main point with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and advantages, a contrastive paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To start with,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in paragraphing. At times, however, the linking feels formulaic, and connections within paragraphs are not always explicit. For example, the move from upbringing to friends, education and work could be made more clearly. The conclusion also repeats the main points rather than drawing them together. Use more precise referencing and transitions to show how ideas relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “upbringing,” “comfortable place,” “attached,” and “career opportunities.” There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “betterment of the society,” although some combinations are unnatural or imprecise. Examples include “close residing to birth place,” “tons of growth,” and “cost of this,” which make parts of the response less fluent. Spelling and capitalisation also need attention, as in “becuase” and “india.” Build a more accurate range of collocations for discussing migration and local ties, and check word forms and spelling during revision. This would make your meaning more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some attempts at more complex structures, including “because” clauses and the contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “human is a social animal” needs an article and plural agreement, while “because of their upbringing was at same place” has an incorrect clause structure. In “people can stuck,” the verb form is incorrect, and “a person … think” shows a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles and prepositions are also sometimes missing or inaccurate. Practise checking agreement, verb patterns and article use, while continuing to vary sentence structures; careful editing would improve accuracy without sacrificing clarity.
