Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many people like to live close to their roots rather than going out. Some people spend their lives living surronding where they were born due to many reasons, however it has a both benefits and drawbacks which I will discuss in following paragraphs.

To begin with, many people like to live close to their roots as emotional and social bondings. Residents who live longer time where they born they find everything easily and they do not need to struggle in their life. Also, they know their neighbours which gives their comfort and support in any situations. For example, old people who like to live close to their born place beacuse of emotional attachment to that place, although they find difficulty if they have change a lot by surrounded. Besides this, some people find difficulty to adapt new environment as they are not used to change. Therefore, they spend most of their life close to their birth place.

However, spending life close to birth place has advatages such as financial support and physical support. Some people live in same house or place since their grand parents, thus they build good reputation in society. Owing to this, residents can help them not only in any emergency situations but also ake care of their house in their absence as they have trust on each other. Also, their child can grow easily with the help of neighbours. A great example of this is a person who have trouble with their business neighbours can provide financial support as they treat them life their own child. On the other side, there are some drawbacks such as growth of person. People who go out and live in other places find more confidence and they can handle more responsibilty, because they do not have any assistance. This can help them future growth and sense of responsible as they need to manage finance, family and work life.

In conclusion, some individuals like to spend whole life where they born due to their strong relationship with residents and place. It has a great benefit that they get support from neighbours in any situation, however it also has some diadvantage that they cannot grow more in their career without handling any difficult situation which is an important part of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: you give reasons for staying near one’s birthplace, including emotional ties, familiarity and difficulty adapting, and discuss benefits and drawbacks. The central ideas are relevant, and the conclusion restates your overall view. However, the advantages and disadvantages are not equally clear or fully developed. For instance, the paragraph on benefits focuses on neighbourly and financial support, while the disadvantage of reduced personal and career growth is introduced but not illustrated in detail. The example about business neighbours is also difficult to follow, so it does not strongly support the point. To strengthen the response, explain each main idea more precisely and use a clear, realistic example to show how staying local can limit opportunities or provide support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from reasons for staying to benefits and drawbacks is generally understandable, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “However” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. At times, though, the organisation is less clear within paragraphs. The second body paragraph combines financial support, reputation, childcare and personal growth, making its main focus difficult to track. Some links are also mechanical or unclear, particularly “A great example of this is a person who have trouble with their business neighbours can provide financial support.” Group related points into clearer units, and make sure each example directly follows and explains the idea it supports. This would make the overall progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “emotional attachment,” “adapt,” “reputation,” “responsibility” and “career.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling sometimes make the meaning unclear or unnatural. Examples include “social bondings,” “live surronding where they were born,” “growth of person” and “treat them life their own child.” There are also spelling errors such as “advatages,” “responsibilty” and “diadvantage.” Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully. More precise phrasing would help you express the contrast between local support and the independence gained by moving away.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as,” “because” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “Residents who live longer time where they born they find everything easily” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “a person who have trouble” has an agreement error. In “they have change a lot by surrounded,” the verb pattern is also faulty. Work on forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, verb tense and articles. Breaking the most complicated sentences into two clear sentences would improve accuracy while still allowing you to show a range of structures.
