Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Priti,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. Hey! I heard that you have been pursuing a Bachelor's degree at Anant University. That's great! I would like to recommend the accommodation where I used to live while studing at the same University. The name of apartment is Brij vihar. They provide comfortable rooms and affordable services.
I am suggesting this place because the rooms are clean, spacious and well-maintained. It provide delicious food and comfortable environment for students. Furthermore most importantly it is close to the University. So you won't have to spend extra money on transportation. As well as I would also recommend that you look for accommodation through the university's housing Office or either search on the university's official website. Additionally you can also join local student groups on social media, where they often post available appartments.
Be careful, as many students make the mistake of choosing accommodation based on the low rent. Although cheaper accommodation may seem attractive, it often lacks essential facilities.
I hope my suggestions will help you find a comfortable place to stay.
See you soon!
Lots of love,
Bijal

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|
| Task Achievement / Task Response | 8.0 |
| Coherence and Cohesion | 7.5 |
| Lexical Resource | 7.0 |
| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | 7.0 |
| Overall | 7.5 |
Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You described your previous accommodation at Brij Vihar, provided clear recommendations for searching for housing, and included a relevant warning about the pitfalls of choosing based solely on low rent. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are well-developed and relevant to the prompt. You have successfully met the requirements of the task by providing a balanced and helpful response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering each bullet point, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'Although', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the first and second paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some linking phrases could be more varied to improve the overall flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the distinct points of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'well-maintained', 'essential facilities', and 'affordable services' are used correctly. There are a few minor errors, such as 'pursuing a Bachelor's degree' (which sounds slightly formal for a friend) and the spelling error 'appartments'. While you use some good collocations, the range is adequate rather than wide. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more idiomatic expressions or less common lexical items that sound natural in an informal context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. However, there are some recurring grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'It provide' instead of 'It provides') and minor punctuation issues. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
