Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mable ,

I hope you are doing well . I am extremely happy for your letter , and I am very much excited for your future .

When I was studying at the university, I stayed an apartment , which was 15 minutes far from the college. I vividly remember , it was a 2 story one . Initially it was hard for me to find a suitable apartment .Because I never had a classmate or close relative in the city to share the room with me.

However, I found a Market place Application, where majority of the students get helps to search suitable accommodation. I prefer you to have a habit of checking rooms on the App. Moreover , if you find any classmates then ask and discuss with them about their stay , this would definitely assist .

Please thoroughly go through the details of the facilities . Whether they have heater ,laundry or they included water bill and electricity bill on your rent . Also , prefer a peaceful residential area with single bedroom ,this help you to focus more on your studies.

I look forward your positive response.

Best wishes ,

KEE

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You described your past accommodation, recommended a specific method for searching (the app), and provided a warning regarding checking facilities and bills. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the warning about mistakes could be more detailed to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' criteria for higher bands. Nevertheless, the response is clearly on-topic and fulfills the communicative purpose of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation spacing (e.g., spaces before commas). Improving the flow between sentences would help move this into a higher band, but the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'vividly remember', 'suitable accommodation', and 'peaceful residential area'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'I prefer you to have a habit' (should be 'I suggest you develop the habit') and '15 minutes far from' (should be '15 minutes away from'). While you attempt some less common collocations, these occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I stayed an apartment' (missing preposition 'in'), 'I am very much excited for your future' (slightly unnatural phrasing), and 'Whether they have heater' (missing article 'a'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing before commas and periods. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage and prepositions, and ensure that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
