Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Ram,

I hope this letter finds you in good health.

Are you excited? I got you letter with the great news regarding the enrollment in the Algoma university in Brampton In Business management course.

When I was studying in the university i lived in the accommodation provided by the university only. Unfortunately, I got know that they stopped providing the accommodation due to excess expenses.

Finding a best place to stay during the course is most important. the source to find the rental places is Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji application. Moreover, the description and pictures of the places are uploaded which gives the view of the place. I believe you will be able to find your place from this two platform.

Besides this, while finding the accommodation make sure to find near the University as the public transportation is expensive and the buses schedule to university are limited. This will directly effects the budget of the students.

I believe that you will soon find your happy place.

Kind regards,

Narveer kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You successfully described your past living situation, recommended platforms for finding accommodation, and provided a warning regarding location and transportation costs. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention that the university stopped providing accommodation, you could have elaborated more on your personal experience to make the advice feel more authentic. Overall, the task requirements are met, and the purpose of the email is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Besides this', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is a bit mechanical, such as 'from this two platform', which should be 'from these two platforms'. The overall progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be improved with more varied linking words and smoother transitions between sentences to achieve a more natural, conversational tone.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enrollment', 'accommodation', and 'public transportation'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'excess expenses' instead of 'high costs' or 'expensive tuition/fees', and 'gives the view of the place' instead of 'provides a visual representation'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. You successfully convey your message, but the range is somewhat limited, relying on basic structures to express your ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I got you letter' (should be 'your'), 'in the Algoma university' (should be 'at'), and 'this two platform' (should be 'these two platforms'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'buses schedule... are limited' and 'this will directly effects' (should be 'affect'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic articles, pluralization, and verb tense consistency.
