Student answer (Band 6.5)

Subject- Regarding the course and accommmodation

Dear friend,

I hope you are doing well

I am writing to inform you about the course at the university where I studied as my course was business management which was very beneficial for my career development. When I choose this Chandigarh university I felt so nervous as it was my first time to live another city instead of our hometown. However, I was so excited to meet new students and teachers.

This university give their own accommodation, so, this is the best way for your living as if students have any problem then they can easily complaint at their department. Also, their member's behaviour was very professional.

Moreover, students usually mistakes when they choose living areas, so, I recommended you to live at their own private sectors. There are several facalities to students For instance study room, park, free wifi.

Hence, I believe that this advice will be very useful for your study.

Thank you

Best Wishes,

Komalpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing your past living situation, recommending a search method, and warning about common mistakes. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when describing where you lived, you focused more on your feelings about the university rather than the specific type of accommodation. The warning about mistakes is also quite vague; explaining exactly what those mistakes are (e.g., signing a contract without viewing the property) would have made the advice more practical and fully developed. To improve, ensure each point is supported with specific details or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The email follows a logical structure, moving from an introduction to the specific requirements of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'For instance' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit disjointed, and some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The flow between the description of your experience and the recommendation for the friend could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This university give their own accommodation', where the connection to the previous paragraph is slightly abrupt. Improving the use of linking phrases will help the ideas flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'accommodation', 'career development', and 'professional'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'students usually mistakes' (should be 'make mistakes') and 'facalities' (spelling error for 'facilities'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic structures. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic or descriptive vocabulary, such as 'on-campus housing' instead of 'their own accommodation' and 'amenities' instead of 'facalities'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally hinder the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This university give' instead of 'gives'), incorrect verb tenses ('When I choose' instead of 'chose'), and preposition errors ('live another city' instead of 'live in another city'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
