Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Varun, hope you are doing well.
I feel so excited to here that your dream to study in Canada is finally accomplished and you got admission in one of the reputed college of Windsor, Ontario where i studied my diploma of Business Management.
Varun there is very hard to find a better place to live in Windsor for new comer, I Moved to Brampton after my studies. But, one of my classmate still lives near the university, He live in two bed basement house and currently he is living alone you can share the basement room with him, If you want to live by yourself you can find the room from the Marketplace in cheaper rate.
My friend one thing i want to let you know that there is a lot of scam is going on at online sites. I have heard many cases where students send money to house owner and get scammed in Canada, Before renting with anyone do not send any advance money to tenant, i will send my friend to look up the room for you and he will give advance to the owner.
Best Regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: describing your past living situation, recommending a search method, and warning about scams. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of where you lived is brief and lacks detail. To improve, you should expand on your personal experience to provide more helpful context for your friend. The advice regarding the Marketplace is relevant, and the warning about scams is well-integrated, showing a clear understanding of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'but' and 'before', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of punctuation is inconsistent, which occasionally disrupts the reading process. For example, the transition between the mention of your classmate and the advice about the Marketplace could be smoother. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'admission', 'accommodation', 'tenant', and 'scammed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'reputed college' (should be 'reputable') and 'two bed basement house' (should be 'two-bedroom basement apartment'). Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'here' instead of 'hear'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise adjectives and natural collocations would help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('He live', 'there is a lot of scam') and article usage ('the reputed college', 'the room'). Punctuation is also an area for improvement, as you often use commas where periods or semicolons would be more appropriate, leading to run-on sentences. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence boundary control will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
