Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear jot,
hope you are doing well in your life, i am really very happy that you choose me to take advice for finding place near university canada west .
As you know i completed study from there , I was used to live near the university for easy excess, as we need to go daily to university for studies. so i will suggest you to find place near Davie street because from there just walk of 10 minutes to our university. The best way to finding place there is use marketplace from facebook, there are lots of listings uploaded by house owners, you can also chat with them and negociate the price, but its really time consuming. you can also check the website of university there are also listings related to the accomodation.
The most important thing that i want you to warn about after talk on phone you can visit that place and check that personally , all the amenities are available there that you need and also dont forget to check public transportation service.
just inform me when you get place, i will help you to move there .
You friend,
Lovepreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your past living situation near Davie Street, recommended Facebook Marketplace and university websites for housing, and provided a warning about visiting properties in person. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. To improve, you could expand slightly on the 'mistakes' aspect; while you advise visiting in person, explicitly mentioning common pitfalls like scams or hidden costs would make your advice more comprehensive and better developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The email is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'As you know' and 'The most important thing'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The use of transition words could be more varied to improve the overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow your advice clearly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas effectively, such as 'amenities', 'negotiate', and 'listings'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'excess' instead of 'access' and 'negociate' instead of 'negotiate'. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'take advice for finding place'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help you reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('find place' instead of 'find a place') and verb tenses ('I was used to live' instead of 'I used to live'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing capital letters and incorrect spacing around commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
