Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Smith,
I am writing this letter to help you in finding the place near Nait university, as you recieved a place on a course.
As, i lived here for two years in a beautiful apartment near the university at 26 st. Moreover, this place has a public library which is free for the tenants which will help you to read books, using computers etc. and just walking distance from the university.
The best way to look for accommodation is online at marketplace where you can get cheaper places to live but may be far from the Nait whereas your university also offers a place to live for students but you have to register an application for place.
I just want you to be carefully while choosing a place because many students rent the place too far from the university which makes them to pay extra fare.
I hope you will choose the place wisely and i am waiting to see you soon.
Thank you
Your sincerely,
John

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing your previous accommodation, recommending a search method, and warning against common mistakes. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when you mention the university accommodation application, you could have provided more detail on why it is a good option. Additionally, the warning about choosing a place too far away is clear, but could be expanded with a specific example of how this impacts a student's daily life. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of information could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'The best way', which assist in linking ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the flow could be smoother. For instance, the jump from describing your old apartment to discussing online search methods feels a bit abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively. You use relevant terms such as 'accommodation', 'tenants', and 'register an application'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'pay extra fare' (which should be 'pay extra for transport' or 'incur higher travel costs') and 'recieved a place' (which should be 'received an offer'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure your spelling is consistent, as there are a few slips like 'carefully' instead of 'careful'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'i lived here' (should be capitalized 'I'), 'at 26 st' (should be 'on 26th Street'), and 'makes them to pay' (should be 'makes them pay'). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the misuse of commas and the lack of proper capitalization for 'Nait' and 'i'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points.
