Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rahul,

I hope you are doing great. I am writing to give an advise regarding the best accommodation to find.

I would like to tell you about my place, where I was used to live during my university studies. I resided in a quiet area of the Montreal. Moreover, I choose Lassale, because it was very convenient place for me. First reason why I found it appropriate for me is the location, as it is very calm area, with no level of noise pollution. It helps me to focused on my studies. Secondly, I found not only the grocery stores near me but also metro station was just 5 minutes far away from my apartment.

In addition to this, I would recommend you, you should also check all the things before making the choice for living in an apartment or house. First and foremost, the location must be convenient for all necessary things such as, supermarkets, transportation facility. Another thing is you should check the noise level as it would create too much disturbance while studies.

I would not like to warn you regarding anything but I have to inform you that do not make mistake when choosing accommodation is that the location must be near to the university because it would takes a lot of time to reach on the place, so be aware while choosing.

I think this time to say goodbye. Let me know if you need any other king of help.

Best of Luck,

divya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points: describing your past accommodation, recommending a search method, and warning about common mistakes. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the advice about location is mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. To improve, ensure each bullet point provides distinct, well-developed information. The warning section is slightly confusingly phrased, as you state you do not want to warn the friend but then proceed to give a warning. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the clarity of the advice could be sharpened.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The email is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'First and foremost', and 'In addition to this'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'I would not like to warn you regarding anything but I have to inform you'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The closing is a bit abrupt, and the transition into the final paragraph lacks a natural connection to the previous advice. Improving the variety of linking words will help the progression of ideas feel more natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'accommodation', 'noise pollution', and 'grocery stores'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'give an advise' (should be 'give advice') and '5 minutes far away' (should be '5 minutes away'). You also use 'king of help' instead of 'kind of help'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid basic errors in word form. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I was used to live' (should be 'I used to live'), 'it would takes' (should be 'it would take'), and 'helps me to focused' (should be 'helped me to focus'). These errors are frequent but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs. While you attempt complex sentences, the accuracy is inconsistent. Increasing your control over verb tenses and ensuring consistent sentence structure will significantly improve your score.
