Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raman,
I'm writing to you about the accommodation facilities near university and in campus. I am happy that you are coming in my university where you will enjoy your study and life.
During my studies, i was in university campus as my parents recommend me to take hostel in university because it easy to balance study and life . Moreover, it also time saver and we can utilise this time in research and development in our course. In Campus, I believe that we can make lot of friend of same interest and do extra curriculam activities.
Although university has lot of seat of rooms in campus but you should not waste time , i believe you should fill form for room before it become unavaliable for new students. Furthermore, i want to reccommend you to choose B hostel because it has lot of facilities.
I want you to not choose C hostel since it is very old and do not have heating and cooling. Apart from that, the food of this hostel is very bad and cause health issue .
See you soon
Your lovingly

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task. The student describes where they lived as a student ('in university campus... hostel in university'), recommends the best way to look for accommodation ('fill form for room before it become unavaliable' and suggesting hostel B), and warns of mistakes ('you should not waste time' and avoiding hostel C due to lack of heating/cooling and poor food quality). The tone is appropriate for an informal email to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are adequately supported and relevant to the prompt, demonstrating a satisfactory fulfillment of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The email is structured with clear paragraphs addressing different parts of the prompt, starting with an appropriate greeting and ending with a closing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'During my studies', 'Moreover', and 'Although', to link ideas. However, paragraphing is somewhat basic and the flow between certain sentences can feel a bit mechanical. Referencing and logical progression are generally clear, but transitional phrases could be varied more naturally to achieve a higher band score. Overall, the organization is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common collocations such as 'research and development', 'extra curriculum activities', and 'health issue'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'come in my university' instead of 'come to my university', 'take hostel' instead of 'stay in a hostel', and 'lot of seat of rooms'. Spelling errors like 'unavaliable' and 'reccommend' also occur. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect limitations in lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures with 'although', 'because', and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several missing articles and prepositions (e.g., 'near university', 'in campus', 'it easy to balance'), pronoun errors ('we can make lot of friend'), and punctuation issues. Subject-verb agreement is occasionally flawed ('food... cause health issue'). While the meaning remains clear throughout, the frequency of basic grammatical errors places this response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
