Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manuel,
I was thrilled to hear that you got enrol in the same course and university, you always dream to get. I remember the time when i was starting my college, you told me that you will work hard to admit in Cambridge university. And today your hard work pays off.
There are a lot of sharing rooms and apartments available near to college road. However, I lived at Sydney road which is 15 min waking distance from University. That area is near all the basis amenities. Moreover, I prefer calm and peaceful place to study.
Furthermore, I will attach few contact numbers of landlords which can assist you to find good and affordable accommodation. Additionally, Best approach to book housing is to make sure that house is not at noisy place, clean and tidy. Since your main purpose is to study there.
Although, There are few concerns which we don't notice and later, it cause day-to day problems. Such as: laundry machines, garbage pick up services. Confirm these with your owners.
I look forward to hearing from you. Please let me know if you require any further information.
Thank you
Jay

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points and maintain a friendly tone suitable for writing to Manuel. You describe your own accommodation on Sydney Road and explain that it was a short walk from the university, then offer to share landlords’ contact numbers. You also give a relevant warning about checking laundry and rubbish services. These details make the advice useful, but some parts are less fully developed: the recommendation to find a place that is clean, quiet and tidy is not clearly presented as a method for searching, and the warning could include more common risks, such as signing before viewing or checking the rent and contract. Extending these points with practical steps would make the advice more complete and specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email has a generally clear progression: you congratulate your friend, describe your former accommodation, offer help with the search, and finish with a warning and a friendly closing. Paragraph breaks help separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” show how ideas relate. However, some connections feel mechanical or unclear. “Although” introduces a sentence that does not contrast with the previous point, while “Additionally” leads into advice without a clear link to the offer of contacts. The laundry and rubbish examples would also be easier to follow if introduced as checks to make before choosing a property. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each piece of advice explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main advice, with useful phrases such as “calm and peaceful place to study” and “affordable accommodation.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “sharing rooms,” “near to college road,” “basis amenities,” and “15 min waking distance” do not express the intended meanings naturally. There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “enrol” and “admit” in the opening. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they are noticeable. Build accuracy by learning common accommodation collocations, such as “shared rooms,” “basic amenities,” and “within a 15-minute walk,” and checking spelling before sending.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the relative clause in “which can assist you” and the reason clause beginning “Since your main purpose is to study there.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “you got enrol” needs a past participle, and “you will work hard to admit” has an incorrect verb construction. In “There are few concerns … it cause,” the article and subject–verb agreement need attention. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Although, There” and “Additionally, Best.” Aim to form complete, well-controlled sentences and check verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries; this would make your varied structures more reliable.
