Dear ..........,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Srinivas,
I am writing to give an advice about accommodation. I got to know that you applied the Management course at University of East London. Where I studied, the course will helped alot once you completed. I want to give you an advice about how to find an accommodation.
Previously, as a student I live in a sharing room with older people which is a cost saving but i was surrounded with fewer students but it is near to university. It takes 15 miniutes of walk to the campus. So, I can commute there without any obligations.
The best way to look for accommodation is check the university website and availability of domentry. If you can't find one alternative options you can go through by looking online sites such as right to move and gumtree those are the best letting sites for students who want to stay in sharing or rent a property.
There are common mistakes students will do while choosing the accommodation. One of the main reasons is not checking the rental aggrement and sign blindly. I saw high number of fellow students doing like this without reading contract and sign the aggrement. I would like you to do is read the contract and sign the document.
I look forward to meet and catch up soon.
Yours wishes.
Damaraka Polisetty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you describe sharing a room near the university, recommend checking the university website and accommodation listings, and warn your friend to read the rental agreement before signing. These details make the email relevant and give the reader practical advice. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The description of your former accommodation is specific about the walk to campus, but the recommendation could explain how to compare listings or contact the university’s housing office. The warning focuses on contracts, but could also mention checking the property in person or confirming costs. A clearer explanation of why these checks matter would make the advice more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs for your experience, accommodation advice and a warning, followed by a closing. This helps the reader follow the main points, and phrases such as “The best way” and “One of the main reasons” signal the topic of each section. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. For example, “Where I studied, the course will helped…” interrupts the opening and does not connect clearly to the accommodation advice. The sentence beginning “If you can't find one alternative options” is also difficult to follow. Use clearer transitions and pronouns, and make sure each sentence develops the paragraph’s main point rather than introducing an unrelated detail.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to accommodation, including “sharing room,” “campus,” “rental agreement,” “contract” and “property,” so the main message is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “commute” and “availability.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “applied the Management course,” “domentry,” “right to move” and “Yours wishes.” Spelling errors such as “miniutes” and “aggrement” also reduce accuracy. These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build a reliable set of phrases for housing advice, and check spelling and natural combinations—for example, “apply for a course,” “student accommodation” and “rental agreement.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which is a cost saving” and a conditional structure beginning “If you can't find…”. The email’s main ideas can usually be understood, but some grammatical errors occur across verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “I live in a sharing room” should use a past form to describe your student experience, while “I got to know that you applied the Management course” needs a different verb pattern and preposition. “The course will helped” also combines incompatible verb forms. Review past-tense consistency and basic sentence patterns, and proofread articles and plurals. More accurate control of these forms would make your advice easier to read.
