Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Aman,

I hope you are doing well. Firstly, I am really excited to hear that you got course at the university where I studied. Well, when I came here I lived in sharing room with 2 people in London, Ontario.

According to my perspective, face book marketing is the best place to look for rooms by searching the near by location of university.

Beside, I will recommend you few things before looking at the place as per my experience. As I lived in sharing with 2 folks which caused me various challenges such as loud music at night because of that it was harder for me to study and get enough sleep. As a result, I got many health issues and disturbance in my studies. Because of this experience I would suggest you to look for private room which will be beneficial for your overall development.

I wish you will find a best place for you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you say you shared a room with two people in London, Ontario, recommend searching Facebook near the university, and warn about noise and its effects on sleep and study. The personal example makes the warning relevant, and the friendly opening and sign-off suit an email to a friend. However, the accommodation advice is less fully developed than the warning: explain how to assess listings or arrange viewings, and give more specific checks before committing. The recommendation to choose a private room follows from your experience, but it would be more useful if you also mentioned practical considerations such as cost, location, or housemates. Overall, the task is covered, though some advice remains general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The email has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a description of your student housing, a recommendation, a warning based on experience, and a closing. This makes the main message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Beside,” and “As a result” to show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the links feel mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “Beside” does not introduce the warning naturally, and the long sentence beginning “As I lived in sharing…” combines the living arrangement, noise, and its consequences in a crowded way. Use clearer transitions and divide this explanation into shorter sentences to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including “accommodation,” “private room,” “challenges,” and “overall development.” The personal details about loud music, sleep, and studying also make the message specific. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “sharing room,” “face book marketing,” “near by location,” and “health issues and disturbance.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Choose familiar, accurate expressions rather than forcing formal-sounding phrases; for example, describe the housing as a shared room and refer to searching for accommodation on Facebook groups. Check spelling and compound forms as well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including a reason-and-result explanation: the noise made it harder to study and sleep, and you connect this to its effects. The message remains understandable despite some grammatical errors. Examples include “you got course,” which needs an article, and “I lived in sharing room with 2 people,” where the sentence structure and article use need correction. “I will recommend you few things” also has an incomplete noun phrase, while “I wish you will find” uses an unsuitable verb pattern. Practise articles, prepositions, and verb patterns, and break up the long sentence about your former roommates. More accurate control of these forms would make your advice clearer.
