Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear robert,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my happiness that you got a admission in the university of nova scotia. I know it is really crucial time for you because now you will move in the new city. It is really tough to find the place to live in the nova scotia because of limited accomodation. When i was a student in the university, that time i got apartment from the facebook marketplace. It was easy and cheap option to find a place instead of find house on website during that time.
Furthermore, Nowadays students have made few whatsapp groups, where they share available aprtments frequently. Also university have hired people, who help students to find a place to live.
In addition, there are some mistakes, students do during find a house. Firstly, they pay deposit to a home owner without recepit. Eventually sometime they will not give you return at the end of term. Secondly, bus service is so poor. It is advisable to not rent or buy a house far from university.
If you have any other question, let me know
your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that you found an apartment through Facebook Marketplace, suggest WhatsApp groups and university support, and warn about paying deposits without receipts and living far from campus. These details make the advice relevant and practical. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. For example, you do not describe the apartment or explain what made it suitable, and the recommendation to use Facebook Marketplace is based mainly on your past experience rather than guidance on how your friend should check listings. Add a little more detail about comparing options and verifying a landlord or property to make the advice more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email has a clear overall order: you introduce your friend’s situation, describe your own experience, offer search options, and then give warnings. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “Firstly” make the sequence easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. To make the progression more natural, connect the advice more directly—for instance, explain how university groups or staff can help your friend check a listing before paying. The transition “In addition” introduces a new warning section, but a clearer topic sentence would make that shift smoother. The closing and sign-off also need a more consistent friendly-email style.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including “limited accommodation,” “deposit,” and “at the end of term.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “Facebook Marketplace” and “available apartments.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “accomodation,” “aprtments,” and “recepit,” and some phrases are unnatural, such as “find house on website” and “pay deposit to a home owner.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for renting and searching for housing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the main ideas using a mix of short statements and some longer sentences, including “I know it is really crucial time for you because now you will move in the new city.” The message remains understandable, but there are some errors in articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “you got a admission” needs an article correction, “university have hired people” has subject–verb disagreement, and “there are some mistakes, students do during find a house” is not grammatically well formed. The closing sentence also needs a complete question form. Practise accurate article use and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence while keeping the useful variety of structures you attempt.
