Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam,

I'm happy to see such an amazing news, you got offer to enroll in paliative care multidiscipline from the Brock university, where I finished my master degree. I'm happy to help you to find good accommodation.

Talking about my living space, I used to live in the university hostel, which was not far away from the classrooms. I used to share my room with one of my classmates, where we helped each other in study, and learning new things.

I want to suggest you to find living space near the university, it'll be easy for you to attend classes on daily basis. Moreover, I would prefer you to find a space in a hostel, but if you cannot find vacant room then I'd highly recommend you to live in Kate flats, which is in the southern side of the university. I've some of friends living there, they 'll not only help you in the study but also make sure your safety.

I want to warn you regarding some things that you should avoid while living in sharing room. Please don't share your personal information with anyone, because there are many people who take advantage of your kindness. Consequently, you need to be a responsible, and straightforward while sharing things.

I hope my advise will help you, and see you soon.

yours lovingly,

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points and maintain a friendly, appropriate email tone. The description of your university hostel and shared room is relevant, and you give practical location advice, including Kate Flats as an alternative. The warning about protecting personal information and being responsible while sharing is also clear. This meets the task well, though some points are less fully developed: for example, you do not explain how Sam should search for accommodation, such as contacting the university housing office or checking trusted listings. The warning focuses mainly on personal safety rather than common accommodation-choice mistakes, such as failing to inspect a room or clarify costs and rules. Developing these details would make the advice more complete and specific.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The email has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the news, describe your own accommodation, offer recommendations, and then give a warning before closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Consequently” show attempts to connect ideas. Some connections are less natural or precise, however. “Consequently” does not clearly express the relationship between the warning about personal information and being responsible, while “Talking about my living space” sounds like a mechanical transition. The recommendation paragraph also combines location, hostel availability, and friends’ support without clearly separating the steps Sam should take. Use more direct transitions and make each paragraph’s purpose and internal sequence clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including “university hostel,” “vacant room,” and “personal information.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “multidiscipline” and “straightforward,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision. For example, “such an amazing news” is not a natural collocation, “living space” is repeated where “accommodation” would fit better, and “in the southern side” is an awkward phrase. Spelling and word-form errors such as “paliative,” “advise” for the noun, and “master degree” also affect accuracy. Build a more reliable range of accommodation-related expressions and check collocations and spelling so your meaning sounds natural as well as clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the university hostel, which was not far away” and a conditional structure in “if you cannot find vacant room.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “you got offer” needs an article, “I used to share my room … where we helped” has an unclear relative reference, and “I would prefer you to find” is not the correct pattern for giving this recommendation. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “a responsible, and straightforward.” Aim to make each sentence’s subject and reference clear, and review articles and verb patterns while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
