Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Kiran,

First of all congragulation on getting placed at my university. I wish you will definetely enjoy this university campus.

In my opinion, you have to find an accomodation before arriving the university.Because I had faced many difficulties when I was searching a place to live.

I had lived in a two story building near to the college. It was a sharing apartment. Mosltly two people were living in a single room. The rent was 430$. That home was very close to the bus stop.

There are many ways to find the accomodation such as facebook marketplace and kijiji. I would like to recoment through facebook market place. Eventhough facabook market place is easier to find the home.

many people lost their money through this app. Because many fraud activities are undergoing on this sites. Do not pay any money before you signed a contract. Make sure the roomes are well maintained and the type of people who you are going to share the room.

These are my reccomentation for before choosing a home. If you need any help from my side please feel free to contact me.

best regards,

Sebin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a friendly, relevant tone. The description of your former home includes useful details—its location near the college and bus stop, shared rooms, and rent—while your advice to use Facebook Marketplace and avoid paying before signing a contract is practical. The warning about fraud is also relevant. This meets the task well, with some elements more fully covered than others: the accommodation-search recommendation is brief, and the final warning about checking room condition and potential housemates is not explained in detail. To strengthen the response further, give a specific reason for your preferred search method and expand on what to check before agreeing to rent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The email has a clear overall sequence: congratulations, a description of your student accommodation, advice on searching, and a closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “In my opinion” and “These are my recommendations” signal the purpose of sections. However, some links between ideas are awkward or mechanical. For example, “Even though Facebook Marketplace is easier to find the home” is an incomplete contrast, and the following warning about fraud would connect more smoothly if introduced with a clear transition. The opening advice also interrupts the description before it is developed. Group related advice together and use complete, logically connected sentences to make the progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including relevant terms such as “sharing apartment,” “rent,” “bus stop,” “fraud activities,” and “contract.” However, the range is limited, and several spelling errors or imprecise expressions make the writing less fluent, including “congragulation,” “accomodation,” and “recomentation.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “getting placed at my university” and “the type of people who you are going to share the room.” Aim for more precise accommodation vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For instance, you could describe a “shared apartment,” recommend “rental listings,” and advise checking the “condition of the room” and the “prospective housemates.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb forms, sentence boundaries, and clause construction. For example, “I wish you will definitely enjoy” would be more accurate as “I hope you will enjoy,” while “Because I had faced many difficulties” is a dependent clause used as a sentence and has an unsuitable tense for this context. “Before you signed a contract” should use a consistent present form, such as “before you sign a contract.” There are also punctuation problems where full stops separate closely connected ideas. Practise forming complete sentences and checking tense consistency; this will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at varied structures.
