Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ahmed,
ts good to see you copy my foot print :) and you want my input in giving you the suggestion for the accomodation.
Let`s start talking about the course and where i lived .Its actually recalled my memory when i went Karachi university for the software engineering course. Belive me it was a roller coaster ride to get into the univiersity and on top of it if you reside in an rea like Tariq road ro DHA its really hard for yout o get into the campus ontime. You knew about the trafic situtation around the city its like everybody wants to go soem where and always in rush . So i lived in an area called Maskan, which is close to the campus and you can easily reach to the campus in 4-5mins of walk.
Because I`ve been there for 4 years i was fortunate to make really good network there,I will share some contact numbers who can help you in you accomodation. You should consider Bhayani Hieghts or may be any apartment which is close to the Maskan chowrangi.Don`t go to Safoora, the area is not good , specially if you want to stay with other student it is mostly populated with the residents.
I`ve seen students in my batch strugling in reaching on time because they choose comfortable place to live but ignored the commute which is important in a metropolitan city like karachi.the cost and time both are eqully important if you are a student to maskan will cover both for you.
Feel free to write me another letter if you need anyother thing from me . I will ask Ashraf to help you in accomodation and Afzal will help you in network.Still i am always there for you in case you need me for anything :)
Yours truely,
Shariq

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points and maintain a friendly, personal tone. The description of living in Maskan is specific and useful, especially the detail that it is a short walk from campus. You also recommend nearby accommodation and offer contacts, which gives your advice practical value. The warning about choosing a comfortable place while overlooking the commute is relevant, but the advice about Safoora is less clearly explained: saying the area is “not good” and is populated by residents does not show precisely what risk or drawback your friend should consider. To strengthen the response further, explain how to search—for example, through university contacts or by viewing places in person—and make the accommodation warning more specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The email has a recognisable progression: you introduce your experience, describe where you lived, give recommendations, and close by offering further help. Paragraph breaks support this overall organisation, and phrases such as “Because I’ve been there for 4 years” help connect your experience to your advice. However, some transitions are abrupt, and the long paragraph about your journey to campus includes several ideas that could be separated for easier reading. The final paragraph also combines a warning, a general point about cost and time, and a recommendation without clearly linking them. Use clearer topic sentences and more precise references so the reader can follow how each detail supports your advice.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary for a personal email, including “roller coaster ride,” “commute,” “metropolitan city,” and “network.” These choices help convey your experience and make the advice feel personal. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural expressions are noticeable, including “accomodation,” “Belive me,” “in an rea,” and “make really good network.” Some phrases, such as “copy my foot print” and “help you in network,” are difficult to interpret naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, say “follow in my footsteps” and “build a good network of contacts.” This would make your meaning clearer while preserving the friendly tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and a relative clause in “an apartment which is close to the Maskan chowrangi.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and punctuation occur often enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “Its actually recalled my memory when i went Karachi university” has an unclear subject and tense, while “if you reside … it’s really hard for you to get into the campus ontime” needs more accurate sentence construction. Several sentences run together without full stops. Practise building complete sentences, checking tense and articles, and separating related ideas with appropriate punctuation.
