Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manan,
I hope you find this letter. I am very happy to hear that you are offered a place in the course of mechanical engeenering at my university. I would like to tell you few things which will be helpful to you.
To begin with, I was living in the hostel area which is 5 min walk from our campus and also it was affordable for every student. Moreover, the rent that you pay will include lunch as well as dinner and also the electricity bill. The best way to look for accomodation is by visiting the student's association room where the members of the club will help you to find the best as well as suitable room for you.
Furthermore, one of the most common mistake that every student does while selecting their accomodation type is that they never take a visit/tour of the room provided. So, make sure to take a visit of your room.
Yours friendly,
Yatharth

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you describe living in a hostel near campus, recommend asking the students’ association for help, and warn Manan to view a room before choosing it. The practical details about the five-minute walk and rent including meals and electricity make the description useful. However, the advice about finding accommodation is brief, and the warning focuses on only one possible mistake; explaining other checks, such as the contract, facilities, or distance, would develop these ideas more fully. The opening, “I hope you find this letter,” is also unclear and does not establish the friendly purpose as naturally as a direct greeting and reference to your friend’s news.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph describing your former accommodation and giving a recommendation, and a final paragraph with a warning. Connectors such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal the progression, and the reader can follow the main advice. Some linking is mechanical, however, particularly the repeated “also” in the accommodation description. The recommendation and description are combined in one paragraph, while the final warning is very short; clearer paragraphing around each task point and more natural links between ideas would make the progression smoother. The closing is appropriate in intent, though the sign-off could be phrased more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “hostel,” “campus,” “rent,” “electricity bill,” and “accommodation,” so the main message is clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “students’ association” and “take a visit/tour.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “engeenering” and “accomodation” are misspelled, and “take a visit/tour” is not a natural collocation. “Hostel area” is also less precise than a phrase such as “student hostel.” The range is adequate for this familiar task, but checking spelling and choosing more natural collocations would make the email sound more fluent and assured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mixture of simple and more developed sentences, including the relative clause in “the hostel area which is 5 min walk from our campus” and the clause beginning “while selecting.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “I hope you find this letter” is incomplete or unclear in meaning, and “I am very happy to hear that you are offered a place” uses an awkward tense construction; “you have been offered a place” would be more accurate. There are also agreement and article issues in “one of the most common mistake” and “is 5 min walk.” Greater control of verb forms, articles, and singular/plural agreement would improve accuracy while retaining your sentence variety.
