Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some group of people support the statement that the current phase or the time is the best time in the history to be living. According to me, people have different mindsets and thus the point of views are various amongst them. I would say that the life before COVID-19 was more attractive than the current time. I will discuss further in following paragraphs.

To begin with, certain citizens feel more comfortable in the current time due to considerable reasons such as the latest technologies that they can have in their life which were not existing before. For example, they can do housecleaning very easily with electronic equipment like washing machine, vacuum cleaner, utensils cleaner machine, and even now they can purchase a house help robot which will do everything for you. Another vital element for current phase is medical facilities that they can pursue. No matter how big is your disease, the latest technology and scientists will find the cure. To illustrate more, Japan has a separate research system which is fully equipped and all successful scientists of the country study and research on the disease in order to find a solutions and they were successful in finding a cure for AIDS and Cancer.

The before COVID-19 era, the technologies were not as heightened as it is now. People used to perform all tasks by themselves and were not highly dependent on machines. People had some useful machines but they were not obsessed to use them on a routine basis. The mobile phones were there but they were only using them when there was a need. However, nowadays all generations are starting their day with their phone and spend their precious time in scrolling Ticktock and Instagram reels, they waste their hours without realizing. Another reason is that the time used to be lively than the current situation. People used to meet each other more often on evenings or on weekends. However, now they prefer to isolate themself in the house by avoiding socializing due the gadgets that they have, before they used to get information from outings and meeting each other now they can have that through social media. In my opinion, during COVID our life became online because every single thing was adapting internet such as online shopping, food ordering, online education, virtual meetings, etc. I prefer the time when every people were spending their time together in shopping, visiting relatives, kids were playing in the playgrounds, attending council meetings personally.

In essence, the life was more living for me when I used to talk on different topics such as what to make for dinner? where are we going out on weekend?, etc. with my all family members in our living room by siting on the sofa. Now I feel that we all are connected through mobile phones. I believe that people will realize in future and will try to bring back the older time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, though the development is uneven. You clearly state your opinion that pre-COVID times were preferable and provide reasons. However, the second part of the prompt—discussing another time in history that would be interesting to live in—is completely omitted. This is a significant omission that prevents a higher score. While your arguments regarding technology and social interaction are relevant, the lack of engagement with the second half of the task means the response is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you carefully read all parts of the question and allocate space to answer each one thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with,' 'However,' and 'In essence,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'they' in the second paragraph, which could refer to either 'citizens' or 'people' in a general sense. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of your argument, which helps the overall flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'considerable reasons,' 'vital element,' and 'socializing.' There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'life was more living' (should be 'more vibrant' or 'more fulfilling') and 'utensils cleaner machine' (should be 'dishwasher'). You also use 'Ticktock' instead of 'TikTok.' While these errors do not impede communication, they show a need for more precise vocabulary usage. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations would help you move into a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Some group of people' (should be 'A group of people'), 'the point of views' (should be 'points of view'), and 'every people' (should be 'everyone'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'due the gadgets' (missing 'to'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
