Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that it is the best time for humans to experience their living because of the vast development of technology but in my opinion, it is a very challenging and stressful life for anyone to grow in the today's world.

As there is a drastic shift in the technology with currently trending Artificial Intelligence, there is a huge impact on the employment. Many people are losing their jobs, as the new AI agents are automating the significant amount of work in every industry. As a result, it is very challenging for the workers to survive in their job and live a comfortable life because of the competitive markets. For instance, most of the multimedia companies has cut down their workforce to 50 percent because they are easily replaced by new AI agents that can perform more efficiently with quick turnaround time.

On the other hand, I would like to live in a time from past where there was no invention of smart phone. Although there was no much of a advancement in communications like video calling, internet access in mobile phone and social media usage. I feel that life was more peaceful without any distraction and stress. Families used to spend more quality time with their loved ones and give values to their relationships.

In conclusion, although some people believe that life in current generation is better to live than past I believe that old days are more peaceful and beautiful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: your opinion on the current era and your preference for a past era. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited, and the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement. While you provide a clear stance, the arguments regarding AI and the 'peaceful' past could be more thoroughly extended with specific, concrete examples rather than general statements. Because the response is under-length, it fails to fully develop the response as required by the task instructions, which impacts the overall score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'As a result', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the two main body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the logical progression of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'automating', 'competitive markets', and 'turnaround time'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'experience their living' (instead of 'experience life') and 'no much of a advancement' (instead of 'not much advancement'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'most of the multimedia companies has cut' (subject-verb agreement error: 'have cut') and 'in a time from past' (missing article: 'the past'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are slightly awkward. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
