Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that today is a good time to live and discuss the appeal of the past, the arguments are somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of why today is 'sophisticated' is vague, and the discussion on the past relies on generalisations rather than specific historical examples. To improve, you should provide concrete examples—such as advancements in medicine or technology for the present, or specific historical eras like the Renaissance or the Victorian period—to support your claims more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the flip side of the coin'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally weak. For example, the transition from discussing stress to 'manifesting' feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically builds upon the previous one to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are some awkward word choices, such as 'running to conquer their best time' and 'partially people', which sound unnatural. You also use some repetitive phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to history and modern society. Focus on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) rather than just individual words, and ensure you are using terms in their correct context to avoid confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there was no multiple politics', 'everyone use to live', and 'both time where precious'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and pluralisation. While your meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work to correct basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tenses throughout your writing.
