Student answer (Band 6.5)

The entire world has witnessed different generations and several phases of development. Each generation believes that their time on the earth is the best out of all past generations. Regardless of their reasons, each time of history has its advantages and its disadvantages. For example, some people now claim that now is the best time in history to be living.

Personally, I believe that this is the best time in history to be living. This time witnesses too many technological innovations in the entire human history. These innovations keep the human brain active. Besides, they push the individual to keep learning in order to live. Missing the mastery of an innovative tool could lead you to illiteracy. The present time is the time of education, opportunities, and success. It is a time that recognizes only they skills the individual possess. It is a time of knowledge and scientific research. It is a time of robotics and electrical vehicles. It is the time of achieving the dreams. It is a time that values the human brain and acknowledges smartness. it is a time of less crises and less wars. Despite of certain worldwide bureaucratic practices, it is still a time of youth empowerment, and diplomatic resolutions.

I would really be interested to live in the time of our grandparents. I would like to experience their sufferance and hardship. I want to diagnose the real issue if it is due to mentality or slavery practices. In addition, It would be interesting in living in the future. It will be quit interesting to discover what the human brain is capable of reaching out. I am also curious to know how life would like, and which food the future generation will consume. Today we are impressed with the emergence of AI, I would like to what will impress the future generation. More importantly, I am eager to know all about the mentality of the future generation.

All in all, the world keeps innovating. I am lucky that I have lived through the whole innovative cycle from the end of 90s until the present. I hope I will live for the next 80 years from now.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed both parts of the prompt: your opinion on the current era and your interest in other historical periods. Your position is clear throughout. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, you list several technological advancements like 'robotics' and 'electrical vehicles' but do not explain how these specifically improve the quality of life compared to the past. Similarly, your discussion of the past and future is quite brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a clear explanation or a specific example that illustrates your reasoning, rather than simply listing concepts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition' and 'All in all', to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing the present to the past is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'diagnose the real issue if it is due to mentality', which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help your writing flow more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological innovations', 'bureaucratic practices', and 'diplomatic resolutions'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, you use 'sufferance' where 'suffering' would be more natural, and 'quit interesting' instead of 'quite interesting'. You also use 'they skills' which is a grammatical error affecting lexical clarity. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with more precision and nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors that occasionally hinder the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'only they skills the individual possess'), preposition errors (e.g., 'Despite of'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'I would like to what will impress'). While your meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent. To achieve a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with prepositions and verb forms, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater control.
