Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed by few people that present day is ideal time in history to be survive. In my Opinion I would say although the standard of living has become better with the improved technology, Infrastructure and other benefits whereas other period of history has its own best part because of using own skills for most of the things.

Firstly the current period has lot of benefits and resources available such as improved technology, infrastructure and other benefits. With the advanced technology so many things can be done quickly and flexible. If you want anything you can get information from internet at any place. For example if an individual is going to another place for job purpose it has become easy to get to know about the place and survive easily by checking everything in google.

On the other Hand, the other part of history use their own mind and skills to get to know information. The brain power and intelligence use to increase any any age level because they don't rely on anything other than their own mind which helps to increase the brain power. And also due to less resource available people use physical body to do anything. For example, In ancient time due to less availability of transportation people use to walk lot of Kilometers to reach school, office and any other place which keeps them fit and healthy.

In conclusion, Although it is beneficial to have everything accessible on time and compatible. It is believed that ancient time keeps us healthy, fit and intellectual because they use their self knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the current era and an alternative historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention technology and infrastructure, the explanation remains repetitive. The second part of the prompt regarding an alternative time is addressed generally as 'ancient time' rather than a specific era, which limits the depth of the response. To improve, ensure you provide more specific examples and extend your arguments beyond simple statements. Your position is clear, but the overall development lacks the detail required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the use of 'whereas' in the introduction, which does not fit the sentence structure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when transitioning between the two main body paragraphs. While there is a logical progression, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns and references clearly point back to the intended subjects.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'benefits', and 'things'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'be survive' instead of 'survive' or 'living'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'compatible' in the conclusion, which does not accurately convey the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical context and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'present day is ideal time' (missing articles), 'other period of history has its own best part' (subject-verb agreement), and 'use to increase' instead of 'used to increase'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters in the middle of sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
