Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that current modern era is the best time to live in compared to the previous history of old civilizations. I believe, although we are surrounded by the modern technology and urban infrastructure we should definitely take this as an opportunity to live within. However, if I get a chance to live back in previous time, I would be more interested to be a part of the medieval time when humanity was truly recognized and respected.

On the one hand, advance technology including medical equipments and superior telecommunication facilities are globally used. In addition to this, many doctors and surgeons consider this upgrade in the medical history as the best time to function in a workplace where all the tools are available on such short notice. Furthermore, enhancement of AI know as Artificial Intelligence has shown significant positive outcomes; such as, softwares like ChatGPT and Gemini has become a social trend and are considered a global success since many young age groups are addicted to its usage.

On the other hand, we should not neglect our ancestral period where they witnessed an entire evolution from their generation's populace to modern humanization colony. Back in the old age, it was an era to be known for its intellectual thoughts and an organized community where everyone stayed united with each other and showed respect by helping them in their difficult times. Moreover, their inner feelings were expressed in true form in the nature of caring and affection. Which nowadays is starting to fade, this is the result of fast-paced environment as everyone is busy in their life by either building their career or trying to save their own relations.

In my opinion, humanity has shown many developments in terms of showing respect and taking care for each other to prioritizing them first when a problem knocks their door first. This not only shows a person's behaviour, but also their character. One should learn this change and set less expectations from your own community.

In conclusion, although ancient age lacks modern civilization and advancement of the technologies it still carried a great sense of showing love and care of their locals. Whereas, today's generation have all the facilities which make their tasks easy are getting more and more dependant on them rather than approaching their own people when in need.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the choice of a historical period. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The discussion of the current era is supported by examples like AI and medical advancements, but the section on the medieval period is vague, lacking specific historical context or examples to justify why it would be an interesting time to live. The position is clear, but the argument regarding the 'medieval' period is underdeveloped and relies on generalizations about human nature rather than historical facts. To improve, ensure that both parts of the prompt receive equal depth of analysis and concrete supporting evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'In addition to this,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Which nowadays is starting to fade,' which is a sentence fragment. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the connection between 'ancestral period' and 'modern humanization colony' is confusing. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'urban infrastructure' and 'fast-paced environment.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'modern humanization colony' and 'taking care for each other.' Some phrasing is repetitive, and the use of 'softwares' (which is an uncountable noun) indicates a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that less common vocabulary is used accurately in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('softwares... has become'), incorrect article usage ('the medieval time'), and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of semicolons and sentence fragments. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over these is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
