Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that the present era is the best time to living and I largely agree with this statement , however, If i had the I had the opportunity to experience another era, I would choose the Renaissance period due to its cultural and intellectual achievements.

To begin with, Today offers a higher quality of life than previous. To explain, with the help of the medical advancement people can get the good medicine and they can prevent the death and many serious problem, whereas earlier they do not have the good services related to the medical advancement. Secondly, access to education and career opportunities for the people. To explain, with the advancement of the technology students can get to know the information about the education is very easily through the internet and they can easily understand everything as compared to the previous time because of the lack of education people can not got the good job opportunities .

Nevertheless, In the previous era, people are very realistic and they are really interested in the art and connected with the roots . I really help for the present generation to learn the old things and use in the modern era. They are very creative by mind as well as in the art.

In conclusion, I believe that the modern world is the best time in history to live because it provides greater safety, convenience, and opportunities for personal growth. However, the Renaissance remains an appealing historical period because of its unmatched contributions to human creativity and knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the present era and the choice of a historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention medical advancements and technology, the explanations are repetitive and lack specific examples. The section on the Renaissance is quite brief and lacks depth regarding why it would be 'interesting' to live in, focusing more on a general appreciation of art. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing (e.g., 'I really help for the present generation'). The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the subject matter. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrases such as 'advancement of the technology' and 'good medicine.' There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'people are very realistic' when describing historical figures, which does not quite fit the context. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to history, technology, and quality of life, and focus on using words in their correct collocations to convey your meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the best time to living' (should be 'to live'), 'earlier they do not have' (tense inconsistency), and 'people can not got the good job' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses, and correct article usage to improve your accuracy.
