Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some individuals define living in the present time as the best in history. This is because changes in lifestyle have taken unimaginable dimensions. In my opinion as well it is the golden period to live in owing to the advancements in every field of life.
The primary catalyst is the comfort of living in recent times, which is evident in every sector of living. Since now we have latest technology available, it has not only minimized physical workload but also reduced everyday hardships with respect to food, shelter and transport. For instance, the electronic appliances and automobiles which are the innovations of the Modern era have cut down the time spent in household chores and travelling significantly. Furthermore, the breakthrough innovations in medicine have drastically declined the mortality rate and occurrence of epidemics. This is because of the mass vaccination practices which curb the spread of infectious diseases that were common in old times. To exemplify, a well-known disease of the past- polio has been almost eradicated in the modern times.
To the best of my knowledge, the Early Modern era would be an interesting time in history to live in as it showed the transition from Classical era into Modern era. It witnessed many scholars like William Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci and Christopher Columbus. The major movements in politics, religion, and geography helped to guide human civilization into the Modern era.
In conclusion, although all phases of time in the past have left a significant mark on human civilization, I believe that present time is undoubtedly the best of all ages in terms of comfort of living and health quality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, clearly stating your position on the present day and identifying the Early Modern era as an alternative. Your ideas are relevant and supported by examples such as medical advancements and historical figures. However, the development of the second part of the prompt is slightly brief compared to the first. To reach a higher band, ensure that the discussion of the 'interesting time' is as thoroughly explored as your argument for the present. You have maintained a clear position throughout, which is a strength.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'for instance', and 'to exemplify' to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two distinct parts of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases like 'primary catalyst', 'drastically declined', and 'eradicated' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'every sector of living' (better: 'every aspect of life') and 'changes in lifestyle have taken unimaginable dimensions' (better: 'have reached unprecedented levels'). While you use some less common items, increasing your use of idiomatic expressions or more precise collocations would help elevate your score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your grammar is generally accurate, which allows for clear communication. There are occasional minor errors, such as 'the present time' (missing 'the' in some contexts) and 'in the modern times' (the 'the' is unnecessary here). Your control over punctuation is good, and your complex sentences, such as the one beginning with 'Since now we have...', are well-constructed. To improve, focus on refining article usage and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement in more complex clauses.
