Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is no doubt that history plays a crucial role in our lives because it consists of a lot of information. Some people think that the current time is the best in history to live. I will give my opinion after discussing both historical periods.
There are several reasons why now is the best time in history to be living. To begin with, the technological period provides multiple benefits to individuals because they are able to improve their future. Furthermore, in today's era, the community and society not only give priority to males in any field but also to females, showing equality, which is a good thing to live by. To illustrate, in history, I saw many times where people discriminated between girls and boys at birth, in their education, etc.
On the other hand, in some cases, other times in history would be great to live in. One of the main reasons is that at that time folks were supporting each other and shared their bad and good times with everyone, by which they were emotionally attached. Moreover, only one king ruled over the people, whom they had to follow; in return, the king took care of them.
Although in both historical times, everyone has their own good and bad experiences of life, I prefer to live in the present time because this era is full of freedom and knowledge, considering men and women on the same level, which facilitates numerous advantages through technology, which makes everything easier, also allowing everyone to get fame and name.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the present day and the selection of another historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of 'technological period' and 'equality' is quite general and lacks specific, concrete examples to support the arguments. The discussion of the alternative historical period is also brief and relies on vague notions of 'folks supporting each other' and 'kings taking care of people' without referencing a specific era or historical context. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and specific historical examples to substantiate your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the two main body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the concluding paragraph is a bit repetitive in its structure, listing points already mentioned rather than synthesizing them into a cohesive final thought. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear enough to follow without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on somewhat simplistic phrasing, such as 'good thing to live by', 'bad and good times', and 'fame and name'. While these do not impede communication, they do not demonstrate a sophisticated control of lexical items. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but it is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and less common academic vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'everyone has their own good and bad experiences of life' (which is slightly awkward) and the run-on structure in the final sentence. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that prevent the writing from being error-free. The range of structures is sufficient, but more variety in complex sentence forms would be beneficial to demonstrate greater control.
