Student answer (Band 6.0)

This is extremely true that a lot of people believe that this is the best era in the whole history to live and it might be true as well. In today's modern world, people have access to all the products which helps in spending their life with a great ease. For instance, if someone feel irritated while washing dishes, they have an alternative option of dishwasher. Whereas, if a person is not interested in mopping the floor then an instant alternative is available, which is an automatic mope machine. Even commuting from one place to another has become easier. Individuals have their own vehicles and if not then public transport have become so advanced that one can easily commute in less time.

Besides all this, I still believe that life in earlier times might be more enjoyable and delightful. The era when there was no access to technology and media. When people use to prefer devoting time for there families and live in realities. According to me, this time would more interesting to live in the history. In those eras, people had mental peace and they were away from other varied tensions. Individuals used to live as a whole in such magnificent areas with overloaded nature and green areas and nature was one of the main component due to which individuals used to live a calm and stress free life. If I compare this component with today's world then such areas are converted into a big jungle of buildings with no nature left. In addition, I believe that this is the reason why people feel pressure and anxiety in their everyday lives. So, I feel this time would be really fascinating to live in.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on whether today is the best time to live and the identification of an alternative historical period. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide examples of modern conveniences like dishwashers, the discussion of the alternative era is vague, referring only to 'earlier times' without specifying a particular period. To improve, ensure you provide more concrete examples or specific historical contexts to support your arguments. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be enhanced to move beyond general statements about nature and stress.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into two clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance', 'Whereas', and 'In addition', to link sentences. However, the transition between the two main ideas is somewhat abrupt. The use of referencing is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences feel slightly disjointed. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'alternative', 'commuting', and 'fascinating'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'automatic mope machine' (likely 'mop') and 'overloaded nature'. Additionally, there are some repetitive structures and basic phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people use to prefer', 'nature was one of the main component') and preposition usage. There are also some punctuation issues and minor spelling errors ('there' instead of 'their'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, especially regarding pluralisation and verb tenses.
