Student answer (Band 6.0)
People have different views about whether the best time to live in history is the present. Modern day living is convenient and exciting which offers a standard living environment. This essay will discuss different perspectives before explaining why I believe some other time in history would also equally interesting to live in.
In the modern era, living is controversial and has some strong merits and demerits. A major advantage is that life has become easier and comfortable due to the technological advancements which offers to reduce workload. The quality of life has also improved due to amazing developments in the field of medicine. Transportation has transformed this world into one global village which is positively impacting the trade and communication between different parts of the world. Innovations in science has changed the infrastructure of our world with better living standards, health facilities and education. Although technology has made life easier, people have became more reliant and addicted to it. Advanced weapons and machinery of mass destruction can bring the world back to ice age in a blink. Sedentary lifestyle has impacted health negatively and individuals are prone to various health issues.
However, lifestyle in the past was calm and simple with more physically active people. History has witnessed some amazing times where people were strong both culturally and ecnomically. For example, Romans were amazing warriors with their empires spread all over the world and Muslim emperors ruled during different times with magnificient buildings, rich culture and values. Throughout the history, many civilizations have advanced in the fields we can not even imagine these days that was possible in the past without the help of sufficient technology. They were experts in astrology, have build giants like pyramids and mastered mathematics.
To conclude, in my opinion, different times in the history were interesting to live in where people had progressed according to those times. There are many attractions in the current day life but life in the past was also fascinating.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the current era and an alternative historical period. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the modern era is discussed with relevant points regarding technology and health, the second part of the prompt—identifying an interesting historical time—is handled in a generalized manner. You mention 'Romans' and 'Muslim emperors' as broad categories rather than selecting a specific, well-defined historical period to explore in depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that your chosen historical era is clearly defined and that your reasons for finding it 'interesting' are more specific and better supported with concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'To conclude', to link your thoughts. However, the flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is more precise. At times, the transition between sentences feels slightly mechanical. Improving the use of cohesive devices to create smoother transitions between your arguments would enhance the overall readability and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological advancements', 'infrastructure', and 'sedentary lifestyle'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'ecnomically' (economically) and 'magnificient' (magnificent). Additionally, some phrases are slightly unnatural, such as 'offers to reduce workload' or 'bring the world back to ice age'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your spelling is accurate. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'people have became' (should be 'become') and 'have build giants' (should be 'built'). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'in the history' (should be 'in history') and 'Innovations in science has' (should be 'have'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and pluralization to improve your accuracy.
