Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been suggested that in this contemporary epoch, current generation is living a better life in comparison to the old aged. In my opinion, i firmly agree with the former statement, new generation ( gen-z ) are expert in using social media and are aware about the geopolitical situations across the world. Whereas, citizens born after 1950 have also seen surprising incidents such as world wars, country invasion and other climate change which made them a rock physically and emotionally.

To begin with, technology is improving rapidly and it helps citizens to acquire knowledge conveniently. One of the prime reason behind this best time is, all the countries are economically strong enough, to fight their own battles, they no longer need help from other foreign countries for their safety and survival. Other than that, new generation is smart, everyday new innovations are being found for the betterment of their country such as rockets, artificial intelligence and other safety weapons. To exemplify, history states, INDIA has come out from being in terrible state earlier, their country was ruled by Britishers for over 200 years and they got their freedom 80 years ago, their youth has contributed in a way that they stand at 3rd position all over the world in economy and finance advancements.

However, after late 1950 people have also seen a tough time, being involved in world wars or encountering scarcity of food and water but that harsh reality made them strong enough to stand again and build everything on their own which turned out to be inspiring for the next generations. To elucidate, history books carries images of these wars soldiers stepping out for fights and their beloved family is cooking out and waiting for their safe arrival.

To conclude, all the generation contribute for the betterment of our society. current ones have technology advancements whereas, previous generation had the courage to win the battle without resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the current era as the best and suggesting the mid-20th century as an interesting alternative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the current generation's expertise in social media is a bit superficial, and the claim that all countries are economically strong enough to fight their own battles is a significant overgeneralization that lacks nuance. While the example of India's economic growth is relevant, the connection between the prompt's focus on 'living in the best time' and the specific historical analysis of the 1950s could be more tightly integrated to ensure a more cohesive argument throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Other than that', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the shift between discussing the current generation and the previous one. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main points, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using more varied linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple additive transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary epoch', 'geopolitical', and 'advancements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'old aged' instead of 'older generations' and 'made them a rock' which is an unnatural idiom in this context. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'prime reason' (should be 'prime reasons') and 'history books carries' (subject-verb agreement), slightly limit the precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede the flow. For example, there are issues with article usage ('the old aged', 'the new generation'), subject-verb agreement ('history books carries'), and comma splices. The use of 'i' instead of the capitalized 'I' is a recurring error. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band score for grammatical accuracy.
