Student answer (Band 5.5)

we learn lots of things from history, few masses ask that current time is good time in history to be live. in my opinion, it is really a very good time, as every person have freedom of living , doing things what he want to do without any consequences, but there was also a good time in history when there was a king Ranjit Singh in Punjab as i studied alot related to this.

however, some individuals say present time good time of living, the main and fist and foremost reason of this is development in technology. to explain: compare to the past when there was no technology , masses used to do their work by hands such as washing cloths by hands and if person need to go when where there was just way of waling and use cow vehicles that was made of wood but now people can wash there cloths in washing machine and if masses need to visit some where they can use cars that is really way more faster. To add on, there was jut limited ways of entertainment but in current time people can use there smartphones to get entertainment and also learn lots of new things.

In contrast, i read lots of books related to Maharaja Ranjit Singh history time, that was also a golden time in our history , masses was enjoy lots of public organised things , such as races and so on . when he was a king punjab was known as a golden squarell.

to conclude, not only masses can enjoy their life due to development in technology but also .earn lots of things from history

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the current era and a historical period of interest. However, the development is uneven. The discussion on the present is supported by examples like technology and transportation, but the section on Maharaja Ranjit Singh is underdeveloped, lacking specific details on why it would be 'interesting' to live in that era beyond a general mention of public events. The position is clear, but the conclusion is incomplete and lacks a final synthesis of the two parts of the prompt. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides sufficient depth and that the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'the main and fist and foremost reason', 'to explain: compare to the past'). There are also issues with referencing; for example, the transition between the discussion of technology and the historical example is abrupt. The flow of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, making the progression feel disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear topic sentences would significantly enhance the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'masses', 'good time', and 'things'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'golden squarell' (likely referring to 'golden sparrow') and 'cow vehicles'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the reliance on simple language prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary and common collocations to express ideas more naturally and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every person have', 'masses was enjoy'), article usage ('in current time'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'if person need to go when where there was just way of waling'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. While the meaning is usually clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar indicates a need for a stronger grasp of sentence construction and fundamental rules of English syntax.
