Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people feel that modern world is best for living. while I hold the view that present era is the most favourable to live owing to advance technology, I would nevertheless find the ancient India fascinating to experience.

My primary reason for my view is the remarkable progress that has been made in science and healthcare. The facilities that are provided by these specific sectors, while also historic period did not have the same technology and advancement to be developed when compared to nowadays. For example, scientific development and medical care invented numerous vaccines such as phenomena, Gardasil, HPV and shingles which are injected in the early age to prevent people from harmful diseases that are destroying many lives. Although, the ancient people had natural cure for various diseases, there was nothing that can be done in advance to save people from life threatening deseases. Hence, today is the best for living the valuable life while having access to better medical treatment and technology.

Another historical period that I would be particularly interested in

experiencing the ancient India. The advanced architecture and engineering techniques that early Indian civilization has developed are at another level. For instance, Harapa and Mohenjo-daro were most developed cities of Indus valley civilization which not only had well-planned cities but also they had sophisticated drainage systems. thus, Witnessing how such structures were developed without using modern technology would be an extraordinary experience.

I sum, I stronly believe that modern era has innovated medicines and science, but I would love to experience development of India in antique without the help of modern science.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the choice of a historical period. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding medical advancements is relevant, but the discussion of ancient India is brief and lacks depth. While the student provides examples like Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, the connection between these examples and the 'interest' in living there could be more explicitly linked to the prompt's requirement for a thoughtful reflection. Overall, the response covers all requirements but would benefit from more detailed elaboration in the second body paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'Although', and 'Hence', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, although there is a minor error in the structure of the third paragraph where the sentence fragment 'Another historical period that I would be particularly interested in experiencing the ancient India' lacks a verb, which slightly disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct parts of the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use topic-specific terminology like 'sophisticated drainage systems' and 'civilization'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'phenomena' (likely meant pneumonia), 'antique' (used as a noun for a time period), and 'deseases' (spelling error). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, the lack of precision and occasional spelling mistakes prevent a higher score. More varied and precise vocabulary would enhance the quality of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('modern world', 'ancient India'), subject-verb agreement issues ('facilities that are provided... while also historic period did not have'), and punctuation errors (e.g., 'In sum, I stronly believe'). The sentence 'Another historical period that I would be particularly interested in experiencing the ancient India' is grammatically incomplete. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of complex sentence construction.
