Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals think that present is the best time to live than past years. I believe that this time provides better career opportunities to grow financially and often offer various facilities in sectors such as education, medical and many more. Apart from now, The medieval period was good to be live in. This essay would discuss both times in the upcoming paragraphs before giving conclusion.
As far as I am concerned, this 21st century is known as digital era with the advancements of technology. That is to say, digital tools make the current lifestyle smoother and effortlessly as machines are there to perform various household and official activities to save their time. As they use this time, to do activities of their interest. Moreover, with the development of transportation and communication system, the world turns into global village. This is because, one can travel overseas within few hours and can have facetime with friends who are living far. In addition, weather forecasting and medical innovation forewarn people to be aware about upcoming storms and health issues respectively. For example, despite humans, robots are there perform heavy chores in factories.
The 18th century, the medieval period, can be considered as the interesting time to live as people were doing all essential work of their daily routines by themselves. They all grow crops for themselves , wrote on leaves instead of papers, used carts to travel from one place to other. Although it was time-consuming to do such tasks, environment was pollution free because machines were not there which lead them to live a healthy life. Hence, people were more creative at that time as they used improvisation to create things they need to fulfill their needs. For instance, many monuments from history are still there which shows a great architectural values.
In conclusion, It can be said that, present time has more innovative facilities but the public face various climate issues and health issues on the other side history is providing better ways to lead a healthy and creative lifestyle with some struggles.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the choice of another historical period. However, the development is uneven. While the current era is discussed with some relevant examples like robotics and global communication, the discussion of the 'medieval period' is historically inaccurate (the 18th century is not the medieval period). This factual confusion weakens the quality of the argument. Furthermore, the conclusion is somewhat repetitive and lacks a strong synthesis of the two viewpoints. To reach a higher band, ensure that historical references are accurate and that ideas are fully extended with more nuanced analysis rather than simple descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Apart from now', 'That is to say', and 'In addition', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, although the link between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each section focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally to connect sentences and ideas, rather than relying on standard linking phrases at the start of every paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'digital era', 'medical innovation', and 'architectural values'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'best time to live than past years' (should be 'better than') and 'facetime with friends' (informal). Some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'despite humans, robots are there perform'. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would help elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the present', 'the past'), subject-verb agreement issues ('machines are there to perform... to save their time'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically articles, verb forms, and sentence-level punctuation.
