Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on why the present is the best time to live and the choice of a historical era. The position is clear throughout. However, the development is uneven. While the first body paragraph provides relevant points on healthcare and technology, the second paragraph regarding the Age of Exploration is cut off abruptly at the end, leaving the final thought incomplete. This prevents the argument from being fully developed. To improve, ensure that all points are brought to a logical conclusion and that the essay is finished in its entirety.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Likewise', and 'Moreover' are used to link sentences. However, the referencing is occasionally weak, and the abrupt ending of the final paragraph disrupts the overall flow. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, but the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the structure feel incomplete. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear concluding sentence and that the essay as a whole has a brief summary or final thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'convient' (convenient), 'facalities' (facilities), 'pervious' (previous), 'signficance' (significance), and 'facinates' (fascinates). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topics of technology and history, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on accurate spelling and using more sophisticated collocations would improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in the history' (in history), 'we all are living in' (which we are living in), 'significantly changes' (significantly changed), and 'they have to rely' (they had to rely). Additionally, the final sentence is an incomplete conditional structure ('If I wouls have the opportunity to lived...'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. Increasing the accuracy of verb tenses and conditional forms is essential for improvement.
