Student answer (Band 6.0)

A large number of people believes that the current time is the best time ever to be lived. I think that we have all the required facilities now and agree with this statement but there are other good times in the history too which were better in its own ways. My essay aims at discussing whether this is the best time to be lived or not and I will also give the reasons behind my preference.

On the one hand, I believe that in this era we have all the facilities. To be more precise, we are able to enjoy all the things in terms of food, internet, housing, travelling and many more in the best way. if I consider talking about history we never had these many facilities to make our lives easier as well as wonderful. Now, The internet is available everywhere and we are able to access all the sources just on our fingertips which results in saving our time and energy.

On the other hand, there were various good times in the history to be lived. The most prominent point is in the 19th century we didn't

had these many problems as compared to this century in terms of pollution, corruption and competition in all the different sectors. Additionally, People had limited resources and they were getting together with each other which was resulting in good relations among people.

In conclusion, Although 19th century was a blessed time for having a relations and better environment but I still agree with the factor that this is to best time to be lived as we have all the required facilities in every aspect which is not making our lives comfortable but also allowing us to live it to its fullest.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the alternative historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention facilities like the internet and food, the explanation remains quite general. The second part regarding the 19th century is also brief, focusing on pollution and social relations without providing specific historical context or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more concrete examples and nuanced reasoning, ensuring that the comparison between the two eras is more thoroughly explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your writing. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the benefits of the internet and the drawbacks of modern life could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will enhance the overall coherence of your work.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prominent', 'facilities', and 'corruption'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'best time ever to be lived' (should be 'to live in') and 'getting together with each other' (which is slightly informal). You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'facilities' and 'good times'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and idiomatic expressions, and pay closer attention to how words naturally pair together in English.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'A large number of people believes' (should be 'believe'), 'didn't had' (should be 'didn't have'), and 'this is to best time' (should be 'this is the best time'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after commas. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while reducing these recurring errors will significantly improve your grammatical accuracy.
