Student answer (Band 6.0)

Due to advancement in the technology, it is considered by many people that living in today's ear is one of the best time. while there are other times as well which would be worth living, I agree that now is the best time, which I will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with the late 16th and 17 the century, People used to live in groups where men were doing outdoor work and earned bread and butter and family, and women were doing household chores. During that time, life was very easy and they were very happy with each others. They treated all the individuals as their family members because they were dependent on each others for daily used items. For example, farmers gave crops to smiths and in exchange of this they made useful equipment, which would be used for agriculture. Moreover, there were no competitions among people; as a result of this, they did not had any stress on their mind. Additionally, atmosphere was very clean since there were not any vehicle available at that time which released carbon footprints in surrounding.

One of the important reasons why people think that now is the best time to live is the advancement in the technology. In other words, it is very easy for people to communicate with their loved ones who are living far from them with the help of mobile phones. They also give us latest news and updates of every corner of the world. not only this, machines are doing work much fast and accurately; however, in the past humans need a lot of men force and time to complete these task. Furthermore, transport sector has improved drastically as compared to the past. Nowadays, It is easy for individuals to travel from one place to another place with the blink of a eye.

In my opinion, although other times of history were also good to live, now is best time because there are a lot improvement in technology and transport sector.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the choice of another historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The discussion of the 16th/17th century is descriptive but lacks a clear connection to why it would be 'interesting' to live in, focusing instead on a romanticised view of social structures. The second body paragraph provides relevant points about technology and communication, but the arguments remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, analytical examples rather than general statements about 'machines' or 'transport'. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of support for the arguments needs to be more consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In other words' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the transition into the second paragraph. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas would benefit from more sophisticated linking words and a more cohesive structure that connects the two distinct parts of the prompt more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'carbon footprints', 'agriculture', and 'advancement in technology'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'today's ear' (era), 'men force' (manpower), and 'blink of a eye'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a lack of precision. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct context. Expanding your range to include more precise, less common vocabulary would also help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('they did not had any stress', 'machines are doing work much fast'), article misuse ('the late 16th and 17 the century'), and prepositional errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalisation after periods. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
