Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that current time is one of the best time in the history to live. However, other time in the history would be ideal for living. I agree with the given statements, as current era allows the people to take advantages of latest technologies in order to live quality life and improve their standard of living, whereas 16th century was one of best historical time to live slow-paced healthy life without any hustle and bustle of competition.

On the one hand, 21st century is an era of technology, because a number of things are done by robots such as surgery, waiters' job, teaching and paying bills. As a result, it significantly reduce the burden of citizens and get the helping hands from advanced electric tools for their comfort during peak hours and busy time. Apart from that, availability of smart phones facilitate individuals to stay connected with their family and loved ones through video calls, watching entertainment reels on a YouTube and being a social through various websites like Instagram and WhatsApp. Therefore, it will improve their living standard by making their daily tasks effortless. Apart from that, modern medical treatment has profound impact on improving the life expectancy of older people and by providing them assistive devices for their physical support.

Hence, current time is one of the interesting time in the history for living.

On the other hand, 16th century would be also important time to live in. It was a time of development of art, craft and major war between Mughal and Rajputana. Due to kingship of Mughal king Akbar, he displayed grate contribution in construction of red fort in Delhi, Mughal Garden and Jaipur palace. Additionally, local community were encouraged to work in farmland in order to cultivate various types of crops and export certain goods via ship, which ultimately makes them flourish and boost their economy. Also, individuals are free to showcase their preference in various creative activities for their personal and overall growth.

In conclusion, recent time is exceptional and better to live a comfortable, quality life and providing plenty of amenities and facilities to family. However, 16th century would be alluring time zone in the history due to slow-paced life, availability of natural environment and less stress about winning competitions in the business market as compared to other periods of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the selection of an alternative historical period. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of the 16th-century argument is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical, focusing more on historical facts than on why it would be 'interesting' to live in. While the position is clear throughout, the explanation of the 16th century could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Apart from that', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly abrupt transition between the discussion of technology and medical advancements. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'slow-paced', 'hustle and bustle', and 'life expectancy' are used appropriately. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'being a social' instead of 'being social' and 'alluring time zone' which is slightly unnatural in this context. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of less common lexical items is limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the current time', 'the 16th century') and subject-verb agreement ('it significantly reduce', 'individuals are free'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'he displayed grate contribution in construction'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The student shows an attempt at complex structures, but the control over these is inconsistent, which keeps the score in the 6.0 range.
