Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that the present is the best time in the history to be alive. I strongly agree with this view because modern people enjoy better healthcare, greater access to education and more technological conveniences than previous generations. However, I also think certain periods of history would be fascinating to experience, particularly the stone age.

One important reason why the present is considered the best time to live is the enormous improvements in healthcare. In the past, diseases that are now easily treated could be fatal, any many women died during childbirth. Today, with the advancement in medical technology, antibiotics, vaccines, modern surgery people can live much longer. For example, someone suffering from an infection today can often receive effective treatment with a short time, whereas same illness could have been life-threatening several centuries ago.

Another advantage of modern life is access to information and education. The internet has made everything very convenient that it allows people to learn about almost any subject within seconds and from anywhere. Students can attend online courses, read digital books, communication with experts, and access information from universities, and libraries around the world. Additionally, modern transport has made travel easier, comfortable and quick.

However, I would find the stone age quiet interesting to experience. This was period of human mankind was the most revolutionary one because human mind started to discover easier ways to make their everyday tasks easy and fast. I would like to see how shaped heavy stone into giant wheels in the beginning. this era would provide an opportunity to witness, how human brain can work so efficiently without having much sources such as internet or books to learn.

Overall,

although many historical periods would be fascinating to experience, I would choose the present as the best time to live. The technology, education, medicine, ad communication provides opportunity, safety, and level of comfort that were unavailable to most people in the past. The stone age era would be exciting to visit, but I would prefer to return to the modern world afterward.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, clearly stating your position on why the present is the best time to live and identifying the Stone Age as an interesting alternative. Your ideas are relevant and generally well-supported. For example, you provide specific reasons for the superiority of modern life, such as healthcare and education. However, the discussion regarding the Stone Age is slightly less developed; while you mention the 'revolutionary' nature of the era, the explanation of why you would want to visit is somewhat vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that the second part of the prompt is explored with the same depth and analytical rigor as the first.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Another advantage', and 'Additionally' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition into the final paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraph structure effectively supports the development of your argument throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'antibiotics', 'vaccines', and 'revolutionary' effectively. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'any many women' (likely a typo for 'and many') and 'without having much sources' (should be 'many sources'). Additionally, the phrase 'quiet interesting' is a spelling error for 'quite'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher level of precision and sophistication required for a band 8 or above.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'in the history' (should be 'in history'), 'with a short time' (should be 'within a short time'), and 'ad communication' (typo for 'and'). Some sentences, like 'The internet has made everything very convenient that it allows...', are slightly awkward in their construction. While you show an attempt to use complex structures, the frequency of minor errors in articles, prepositions, and sentence construction suggests that your control over complex grammar is not yet fully consistent. Focusing on proofreading for these small errors would significantly improve your score.
