Student answer (Band 6.0)

Present years are the best era to be living and many individuals and I think it is true because of the convenient lifestyle, so in my opinion it is undeniable that this time is better than ever and other than that the time when fire was first invented would be interesting to live in.

First and foremost, advancement in technology makes people' s life easy. In today's world masses have high living standards due to artificial intelligence and technology which provide variety of facility to people, while before people had many issues due to limited or no technology. For example, now travellers can move from one country to another, by using a plane, while it was not possible back then. Therefore, now is the best time to live and enjoy because development made life comfortable in many ways.

Furthermore, rather than the 21st century, the time when fire was invented would be interesting to live in because people could have high IQs that time. It is a surprising invention of how individuals did the invention of fire without any knowledge and the internet which is the greatest invention in human history. Therefore, that could be an interesting time to live and learn related to the human mind and their potential.

To conclude, many individuals believe that this time is the supreme time on the earth throughout history to live in. In my opinion this is true because of the inevitable development of the Information technological sector and other developments as well. Other than today, the time when fire was introduced can be also interesting to live in.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the selection of a historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding the invention of fire is quite brief and lacks depth, focusing more on the 'IQ' of early humans rather than the societal or environmental context of that time. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to meet the requirements for a higher band. The response is balanced, but the reasoning remains at a general level throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs can be slightly disjointed. For instance, the transition between the discussion of technology and the example of travel is abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a more natural flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'time', 'invention', and 'development'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'artificial intelligence' and 'Information technological sector', the collocation is occasionally awkward, such as 'provide variety of facility' instead of 'provide a variety of facilities'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it does not demonstrate a flexible or precise control of less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'many individuals and I think it is true' (awkward phrasing), 'masses have high living standards' (missing article), and 'did the invention of fire' (unnatural collocation). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the space in 'people' s'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed.
