Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern era, people get more technology as compared to ancient time, so that is the reason people are more smarter than the past.

In the previous time, people lived together in the same house but change with the time the area of the houses is approximately same but the family size is decrease and the expenses for a daily live is increased day by day and people prefer to live in a small families.

According to the survey in the older time people live longer than today, because everybody is busy in their own schedule they do not have a time to share things with others. They feel frustrate and depressed because of the work pressure. For example, in the small family has a four member that is two parents and two kids. Parents are busy to earning a money for their kids and household things and they do not have a time for the outdoor activities with their kids. This is the main reason kids are active on the social media and they have weak eye sight and change in their behaviour.

In the past, people live happier than us and they are not using any social media. They connect a people from their heart not for the formality ways.

In conclusion, I think past time is much better than today, people were more energetic, happier and hard worker. And they share there ideas with their community as well they are not money minded. They spend their precious time with their families and kids. Time should be change according to century but people's heart, behaviour should never be change with the time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is limited and lacks depth. While you express a clear preference for the past, the arguments provided—such as family size and social media usage—are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, well-supported examples. The second part of the prompt, asking about another interesting time in history, is completely ignored. To improve, ensure you dedicate a full paragraph to each part of the question. You should also provide more concrete evidence or logical explanations for your claims rather than relying on generalizations about 'the past' versus 'today'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is weak. Transitions are often missing or used incorrectly, such as 'In the previous time' or 'change with the time'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, which makes the flow of the argument feel disjointed. For instance, the transition between the discussion of family size and the impact of social media is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. You frequently use simple phrases like 'people live' or 'busy in their own schedule'. There are also several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'people are more smarter' (should be 'smarter') and 'formality ways'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'technological advancements', 'societal shifts', or 'interpersonal relationships'. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you convey your arguments with greater clarity and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('family has a four member'), article usage ('in the previous time'), and tense inconsistencies ('Time should be change'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'because everybody is busy in their own schedule they do not have a time'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
