Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is always a debate regarding living a life is best at present. However, I believe the time in history was more pleasant. This essay will discuss both the views with my genuine opinion.

Nowadays life is very fast paced and more convenient then past. Due to advanced technology the jobs are very reliable and quick. People can work from home by putting less effort in travelling. Every important work can be shared on email and action are taken rapidly with smooth process. For instance, many companies provide work from home which saves lot of time in travelling. Moreover, masses can order food online without spending much time in commuting. Which also reduces air pollution and same way it fosters employment for the delivery drivers.

On the other hand, life was more peacefull and social in late 60's. Public use to travel together and shared their routine with the colleagues. Although person has to travel a lot as vehicle facilities were limitedbut it was helpful in maintaining their physical health. For example, the health of pupil in past was stayed much better and enjoyable as they walked more for their jobs which helped to maintain their cardio vascular systems. Furthermore, social life was more interesting as people like to spend time with their family and friends. However, its hard to engage with family and spread happiness due to fast pased work culture.

In my opinion, the present life is more relaible and easy due to certain advancement in technology and work patterns. However, the life in past was more social and healthy. As person had less stress and they spend quality time with family which is very hard these days.

To conclude, present life is easy and demanding but past was stress free and there was more engagement with family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on whether the present is the best time to live and the identification of another interesting historical period. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of modern technology are clearly explained, the discussion of the 1960s is more generalised and lacks specific historical context or concrete examples beyond vague references to social habits. The position is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by providing more depth in the comparison between the two eras. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesise the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the sentence starting with 'Which also reduces air pollution'. Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas within the second body paragraph could be smoother to better connect the concept of physical health with the social aspects of the 1960s.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their opinions clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language like 'fast paced', 'work culture', and 'cardio vascular systems'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'pleasant' instead of 'better', 'masses' used inappropriately, and 'pupil' used to refer to people in general. Spelling errors like 'peacefull' and 'pased' also occur. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the health of pupil... was stayed'), article usage, and punctuation. For example, 'Public use to travel' should be 'used to', and 'vehicle facilities were limitedbut' lacks a space. These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
