Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely believed that modern times offer the best quality of life compared with the past due to advanced technology.

I largely agree with this view because modern society provides good education, better healthcare, technology and living conditions than the most previous periods. So, I will elaborate on reasons with relevant examples in these paragraphs.

To commence with, there are several reasons why the present can be considered the best time to live. One primary reason is that medical science has developed enormously. In these recent decades, allowing people to prevent and treat numerous serious diseases. In the past, illness that are treated today can be life-threatening. Another crucial cause is the advanced technology. It makes life faster, convenient, and accessibility. people can easily stay connect with their friends and family members across the world. In addition, people can get better education, public transportation, and public service than they did in past.

Despite these advantages, I think the renaissance would be a particularly interesting period to liv in. During this time, there were major development s in art, science, architecture and literature. Living in a city such as Florence would be allowed a person to witness the work of famous artists nd thinkers and experience an exciting period of cultural change. For instance, Leonardo da Vinci's worked combined art, science and engineering, shoeing how people were beginning to explore new ideas about the world.

However, I would not necessary prefer to live permanently in the renaissance. people at that time generally had shorter experience and lacked modern medicine, electricity and many basic convenience. Therefore, although the period would be fascinating to experience for a short time.

To sum up, it can be said that the present is one of the best time in history to live because of improvements in health care, technology and living standards. Nevertheless, the renaissance would be an extremely interesting period to visit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear opinion on why the present is the best time to live and identifying the Renaissance as an interesting alternative. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, though the explanation of the Renaissance could be more detailed to fully support the argument. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that the supporting examples are fully integrated into the argument rather than just listed, and avoid minor logical gaps, such as the incomplete sentence at the end of the fourth paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', and 'Nevertheless' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the benefits of the present and the shift to the Renaissance. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'medical science', 'architecture', and 'cultural change'. However, there are several word-choice errors and inaccuracies, such as 'most previous periods' instead of 'previous periods', 'accessibility' used as a noun where an adjective was needed, and 'shorter experience' instead of 'shorter life expectancy'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and word forms to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('illness that are treated'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. Some sentences are incomplete or poorly constructed, such as 'In these recent decades, allowing people to...'. While you demonstrate an attempt at complex structures, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and sentence completeness would significantly improve your accuracy.
