Student answer (Band 7.0)
There is currently a contentious argument over whether the present is the best time in history to be living. I totally agree with this opinion because modern technology has improved our quality of life, and people have greater access to education and opportunities.
forst the foremost, modern technology has made people's lives easier and more convenient. This is because people can now use smartphones, computers, and the internet to complete many daily activities within a few minutes. To exemplify this, people can work from home, communicate with relatives living in other countries, and purchase essential items online. Further, technological developments in transportation and household appliances save considerable time and effort. Thus, the present era provides a comfortable lifestyle that was not available to people in the past.
However, if I could choose another period to live in, I would select the Renaissance period in Europe. To substantiate this, this era was famous for remarkable developments in art, science, literature, and architecture. Nonetheless, I would be particularly interested in meeting famous thinkers and observing how new ideas changed society. To add to it, living during this period would provide a unique opportunity to witness important discoveries and artistic achievements firsthand.
Having analyzed the various aspects of the issue in question, it is concluded that the present is the best time to live because of technological advancements, better healthcare, and greater opportunities. Given this situation, it seems that the Renaissance period would be another interesting time to experience because of its significant contribution to art, science, and culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position on why the present is the best time to live and identifying the Renaissance as an alternative. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples such as smartphones for the present and artistic developments for the Renaissance. However, the development is somewhat brief. While the position is clear, the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on the Renaissance is quite general; providing a specific example of a thinker or a discovery would have strengthened the response significantly. Overall, the task is fully addressed, but the depth of analysis is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'forst the foremost' (which contains a typo), 'To exemplify this', 'However', and 'To substantiate this' are used to guide the reader. While the progression is logical, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow. To improve, the student should focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing is consistently accurate throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'contentious argument', 'technological advancements', and 'artistic achievements'. However, there are some minor errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'forst the foremost' (a misspelling of 'first and foremost') and 'To add to it'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. The student should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and grammatically correct, which ensures that communication is not impeded. There are some minor errors, such as the spelling error 'forst' and the slightly awkward phrasing in 'To add to it'. The use of punctuation is generally accurate. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to use a wider variety of complex structures with greater consistency and ensure that minor slips are eliminated. The current control of grammar is solid but lacks the complexity and error-free nature of higher-level writing.
