Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that now is best time in history to be living. Present time can be considered as a best time because of better available facilities such as improved health, transportation and education system. However, I believe that 50s would be great period to live in.
The primary reason why people believe that we are living in the best period of all time is the available facilities. The health system has been improved significantly. As a result, many diseases such as Malaria, diabetes and heart problems that were incurable in the past are now treatable, so, it increases the life expectancy. In addition, education is easily accessible and affordable, since there are many public schools or colleges and free online platforms such as YouTube. Consequently, the literacy rate has increased impressively. Furthermore, people can travel easily and comfortably, as different mode of transportation are available. For example, it took several hours days or weeks to go from one city to other cities in the past, but now it takes a few hours to reach anywhere in the world.
However, if I could get an opportunity to chooses a period where I would love to live, I would choose a period between 1950 to 70. This is the period when lots of development was taken place, especially in science and technology. For instance, this was the period when scientist travelled to space and reached to the moon for the first time. Moreover, Our grandparents often mentioned that they used to live in a extended family, so that would be a different experience to live with cousins together. Additionally, I believe that would be less the challenging period. As people live together, they could support each other, particularly during difficulties.
In conclusion, there is no denying that now is the best period to live because people may access to better health, education and transport system. However, it would be fascinating to live in a period of 50s to witness the travel to the moon and enjoy the family ties.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the current era and a historical period of interest. The position is clear throughout. The arguments regarding modern facilities (health, education, transport) are well-supported with relevant examples. The second part of the task, regarding the 1950s-70s, is also addressed with specific examples like space exploration and family structures. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the link between the 1950s and 'less challenging' times could have been explored with more depth. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Consequently', 'However', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, there are minor instances where the connection between sentences could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition between the discussion of modern transport and the shift to the 1950s is functional but could be more fluid. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'life expectancy', 'incurable', and 'literacy rate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'different mode of transportation are available' (should be 'modes') and 'development was taken place' (should be 'was taking place'). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise or sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band. The errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there is a good attempt at complex sentences, there are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('the best time', 'the 50s'), subject-verb agreement issues ('different mode... are'), and tense errors ('development was taken place'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some comma usage is inconsistent. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Greater attention to articles and verb forms would improve the accuracy significantly.
