Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on the current era and the choice of a historical period. The position is clear throughout. The arguments regarding modern advancements in healthcare and technology are relevant, though the development is somewhat basic. The second part of the task regarding the Sikh Empire is also addressed, providing a specific historical example. However, the development of ideas could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response remains focused on the topic, and all parts of the prompt are covered sufficiently.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondely', 'Furthermore', and 'Nevertheless' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the sentence 'Many folks dead in recent times due to some diseases' lacks a clear connection to the previous point about medical advancements. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main parts of the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though there is a reliance on simpler terms. There are several spelling errors, such as 'tecnology', 'privious', 'individulas', 'religius', and 'becasue'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly informal or imprecise, such as 'folks' and 'Top-notch'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'sovereign state' and 'secular administration', the frequent spelling mistakes and limited range of sophisticated vocabulary prevent a higher score. The errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are noticeable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('modern advancements gives us', 'most their work is done') and awkward phrasing ('that is called as reign'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization (e.g., 'Top-notch', 'Numerous Enhancements'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over more complex structures. To improve, the student should focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
