Student answer (Band 5.0)

Living a satisfy life is a dream of every individual. Some people believe that present scenario is perfect in history to live in. I will represent my perspective behind this statement in upcoming paragraphs before concluding it.

To commence with, the prominent reason to consider present time as perfect to be living than the past is wide range of modern amenities. As people use technological device to do any kind of tasks which make their chores easy and comfortable. They save time with the utilization of gadgets and get more leisure time to enjoy their hobbies. Hence, machines ease individual's life in most aspects.

On the other hand, in the young days of our grandparents everyone depends on their family members which shows respect and love among them. Moreover, living together with elders taught them moral values which are lack in today's generation due to nuclear families and hectic lifestyle.

In my opinion, no doubt now is the best time in history to be living, but parents should take care of their children for their mental and physical growth because high dependence on machines can harm cognitive, intellectual as well as physical development in young ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 196 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the first part of the prompt regarding the present day, you completely omit the second part of the task: 'What other time in history would be interesting to live in?'. Because a major component of the prompt is ignored and the length is insufficient, the response is underdeveloped and fails to provide a full argument. To improve, ensure you address every question asked in the prompt and expand your supporting points with more detailed examples and explanations to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the response. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'On the other hand', but these are somewhat mechanical. The transition between the discussion of modern technology and the comparison with the past is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows logically into the next, creating a more cohesive argument that guides the reader through your reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'living' and 'time', and there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'satisfy life' (should be 'satisfying life') and 'present scenario is perfect' (should be 'the present era is the best'). There is little attempt to use less common or idiomatic vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and nouns, and focus on learning common collocations to make your writing sound more natural and sophisticated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I will represent my perspective behind this statement' (awkward phrasing), 'technological device' (should be plural), and 'moral values which are lack' (should be 'which are lacking'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often simplistic. To improve, work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will help you achieve a higher band score.
