Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a days, you find people usually saying that it is the best time to be living.Because technology has become so advanced.Everything is so easy.Mobile phones can do anything for you.In addition, you are more connected to the globe. The world has become a “global village”,because you can contact anyone in the world in no time. Also, artificial intelligence has made everything so easy .You can search anything in no time. But my opinion is contrary to that.No doubt, technology has changed our lives. It has made it more easier, more advanced as well as more connected. But it has made us distant from the people who live with us.By that ,I mean our families. We surely have been more connected to the people who are far away from us.But less connected with the person who is living with you,in the same house or even the same room. You will certainly know what Rachel in Maxico is craving but not what your wife is thinking beside you right now .We have become so emotionally disconnected.I miss the time in early 2000,when technology was available but it had not taken over our lives.Mobile phones were available but not that much addictive. They were only available to call or text someone when you purely need to contact. There was a more fierce connection between people.Plus there was a lot of time for your kids, your parents or even your spouse.More time means more emotional connection. It was certainly the best time in my opinion. For example I used to sit and talk with my parents for hours. But today,my teenagers don’t have even a minute to talk to me.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on whether today is the best time to live and an alternative historical period. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the argument regarding the emotional disconnect caused by technology is clear, the discussion of the 'early 2000s' as an alternative is brief and lacks depth. The ideas are relevant but could be extended with more specific examples or analysis to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall structure feels more like a personal reflection than a formal essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks formal paragraphing, which significantly impacts the logical flow. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult for the reader to distinguish between the introduction, the main arguments, and the conclusion. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'In addition', 'Also', and 'But', they are often used at the start of very short, choppy sentences. The progression of ideas is present, but the lack of clear paragraph breaks and the repetitive sentence structure hinder the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. There is a reliance on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'made everything so easy' and 'in no time'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'artificial intelligence' and 'global village', the range is limited. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'more easier' (a double comparative) and 'Maxico' (spelling error). To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise and varied lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There is a frequent use of sentence fragments, such as 'Because technology has become so advanced.' and 'They were only available to call or text someone when you purely need to contact.' Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing after commas and periods. The grammar contains several errors, including the double comparative 'more easier' and subject-verb agreement issues. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the frequency of basic grammatical errors limit the score in this criterion.
